Hi Ajmal,
Welcome back...it's been a quite a sometime you were busy!...
The HR Issues in M&A are:-
Besides seniority & compensation..
The insecurity of employees
availablity & selecting or retaining, identifying the existing talent
Retrenchment
merging the cultural issues..
dealing with union of workers
dealing with political issues
building team of both the entities...
Creating synergy..
Corporate structures..
understanding the technologgy..
Legal issues involved in contracts or employment..
Financial implications..
Linking the changes to desired goals..
Lot of answers will emerge if HR are involved in Top management discusions, aware of market dynamics..

Hi Ajmal:
Interestingly i am currenty in the phase where my company is accquiring some companies and also at the same time is mergeing with some bigger giant.
All the points brought up by Rajat are relevant and being experienced by almost all of them.
And most obvisiously there is no proper planing before accquiring some companies as we ourselves are a small company and a year old.
Unfortunately we currently do not have anybody at Strategic HR level where one can take necessary steps in meeting the same treatment across all the companies. As we see some top managers favuoring the employees of "prime company" which is not a good method because eventually they would be a part of your company.
Generally the enviornment and morale is quite distrub and then there are obivious financial constraints that you are struck with....
