Dear Mohana.
I understand your concern, yes many people would have simliar concern when they move into managment level, but as subject matter expert as yourself, first as manager you should be clear of communication chanels because would understand how is your company or organisation is working, secondly see yourself with peers and what is your next step, in managment PDC ( continue learning and development) is what make you different from other managers, analysis the role of your organisation and your dept, see your department vision, mission what is the stratgies to meet them.
managers have to role in their department, continues preformaning according to companies KPI, nextly, continue improving the skills and your staff performance by making them movtivated and productive and this done with clear vision and understanding of your role.
lastly be member with international assoication, like Chartered Managers Institute ( site CMI) or be part of Management group in linked in, this international exlpore will inable you to use the managment techniques, like steakholders understanding, Organisation behaviors, the KPI's of staff performance and financial managment control's in departments.

Dear Mohana
Take this opportunity as a challenge and face it boldly. Try to understand as what all you are supposed to do in your new position. Make a table diary of what all you have to do right from morning till evening and what to do every week, once a month, quarterly task, half yearly task and annual. Give communication to supporting staff to keep records, registers, files for your verification. Make a list of the task you have to do by yourself on the above basis. Keep on noting the daily activities, process, interactions in your note pad. Check before you leave the office whether today's tasks are accomplished by your team, yourself. Prepare a list for tomorrows task. Keep good networking with HR professionals and other related functionaries, govt. officials. Meet the functional heads and have interactions with them, listen to their problems and solve it asap. Meet employees informally at the work place and listen to their problems or call them to your office. Have good rapport with them.
Be firm on your stand on issues and be flexible without compromising the organization policies. If necessary initiate for amendment of rules if you feel that the existing rules are hindering the process of achieving organizations objectives.
Regards & Good Luck
