Internal training means training taken up by one of the employee in the organisation and scheduled at company premises.
External Training happens outside the company premises and is handled by faculty from outside the organisation.

would just like to add that there needs to be an extensive cost benefit analysis before deciding on an external training or an internal training. In case of lack of expertise in the company, they can go for outsourcing the programme to a vendor who develops the plan of instructions, the venue etc.
