Please read this and this is real incident happened few day before.....

With deep pains (and tears in my eyes), i am sorry to inform You that yesterday morning, one of my dear friend's elder son (Mr. Aditya Suresh Joshi), age 19, studying in 1st year of engineering, died in Keshvani Hospital, Mumbai. He was admitted in Keshavani Hospital as burned patient.

Reason? 4 days back this boy had gone to Amravati (One of the district place located in State of Maharashtra) on study tour. After their study was over, he, his classmates & his teachers, all of them were standing on "Badnera" railway station to catch the train. "Badnera" is the name of the railway station for “Amravati" city.

As soon as they arrived on Badnera Railway station, many of them started taking pictures of their friends using "Mobile Phones" and/or "Digital Camera". One of them complained that, in his camera, he was not able to capture more number of friends in one frame. He was not able to catch the angle. Another boy suggested that let's climb on train boogie and take picture so that all of them can be

accommodated in single frame.

At that there was one goods wagon (all of them were oil tankers) train resting between 2 main railway lines. Kumar Aditya climbed up oil boogie. Above his head, 40,000 volts electrical line was passing through. As soon as he clicked the digital camera, 40,000 volt current passed through the camera flash light to his camera and then from his camera to his fingers and then from his fingers to his body. All this

happened within fraction of minutes. Next moment he was thrown from the top. His body was half burned on the spot.

At that time, his father (my friend) was traveling in Bangkok. His many friends in Pune came to know about this via mobile SMS. They instantly arranged air ambulance in Amravati and his burned body was brought to Keshavani Hospital, Mumbai. I was told that this is the best hospital in Mumbai. For 1 and ˝ day or so he was talking to his relatives. When he was admitted to the hospital, at that time only, doctor informed his relatives that don't keep great hopes. Because of lot of complex issues in half burned body?

He died yesterday morning. Now how many of us are aware about this technological threats & dangers? Honestly, Kumar Aditya and his father was not aware. His family was not aware. Our entire friend circle of more than 12,000, we were not aware. Now should we call ourselves as fully educated and fully knowledgeable people? Think of it. Please avoid mobile phones on petrol outlets.

Please avoid talking on mobile phones while driving. I also know many of my friends who do not bother about this good suggestion and each one of them have opted for "Chalta Hai Yaar Attitude". Please avoid talking on mobile phones while they are in charging mode. Avoid charging mobile phones near your bed and/or near wooden furniture. Avoid mobile phones near high voltage electrical lines like railway stations and avoid using flash lights.

My friend, his family members and we all friends learned our lesson with loss of a young life. Now would You like to empower Your friends about this accident so as to avoid future accidents? We can save human life by empowering all the IT users who are in Your network?

Dear Shabbir Mohd,

My sincere condolences for the incident that happened. It is not that people don't know, it is that they ignore. Taking that ease. Hopefully incidents like these might turn up people's attitude. I still see people crossing the road so slow, ignoring the roaring traffic. It is only the attitude of the person that rules... :(

Hello Mr. Shabbir Mohd,

There are gaping loopholes in the story that you have forwarded. Following are my observations:

a) Kumar Aditya was on the top of the bogie. From there, he aimed his camera towards the group of his friends who were on the ground. When he clicked the flash, he must have aimed his flash towards his friends and not atop - towards the electric cables. Then where is the question of electricity coming into the picture? How can electricity pass through the air?

b) For a while, let me believe that he aimed his camera towards the electric cables. But then, since when did electric current start passing through the beam of light?

c) Though science does not support it, let me believe that the beam of light passed the current. But then, the flash was originated by the camera and not by the electric cables. If the current had passed, then it should have passed from the camera to the cable. But then why did the current flow in reverse?

d) Electric cables used by railways are laid on open ground. Many times weather storms happen. When lightning happens, the flash is as good as a photo flash. Then why have similar accidents not happened earlier at any time?

e) The manual provided along with a mobile phone or camera never says that you should not aim your flash towards the electric cable? How come this inconsistency?

f) Cameras with flash are used worldwide. When film shooting happens, their cameras are far more powerful. Why have no such accidents been reported earlier at any time?

While uploading stories of this kind, make sure they are written correctly. Either the story is incorrect or written incorrectly. We, the HR fraternity, should be torchbearers of critical thinking. I have found the contrary example of it.

Thanks,

Hello all,

I also strongly believe this story is cooked up. I am a Mumbaikar since birth and have not heard of any Keshvani hospital in Mumbai, which is a specialty burns hospital. In fact, if you Google Keshvani hospital, you don't find any.

The electrical energy traveling through Camera Flash: Has it stemmed from the "3 Idiots" Urine Experiment?

@ Dinesh,

Although you and I agree on the falseness of the story, allow me to correct you on technicalities. Electrical current does not pass without a conductor. However, Electromagnetic Induction does not need any conductor. That's why we see people/trees/animals being struck by lightning. Secondly, recently, the Railways in Mumbai have changed their electrical source from DC to a 25000V AC and are warning people to avoid traveling on the roof of the train as the proximity to the high voltage carriers can cause severe burns (because of the EMI).

Dear Shabbir.mohd,

I am a professional safety engineer with many years of experience. Let everyone else who reads your post doubt you, but I believe you.

This type of fire has occurred in the past and will likely happen again. Those who are skeptical can provide their email addresses, and I will send them the video of the shell tanker fire incident. An attendant climbed onto the tanker at a petrol pump. While he was at the manhole, his mobile phone rang. He inadvertently pressed a button on the phone, leading to the tanker catching fire.

The only inaccuracy in your post is regarding the cause of death. You believe it was electricity that killed your friend, but that is incorrect. It was the fuel vapor that ignited, possibly triggered by the camera flash, resulting in a fire that caused your friend's death. Please obtain the medical report to confirm the actual cause of death. Burns from electricity and burns from fire are distinct, and doctors can verify this.

Regarding Dr. Keswani - the burns hospital specialist - there is indeed a hospital named after him. In 1976, during my safety training at NITIE, Dr. Keswani from the burns hospital conducted a class on burns for us. I still recall his excellent lecture, the impactful photographs he shared, and the valuable information he provided.

To further convince me to stay with you, could you please provide a newspaper clipping of the news?

I would like to give my comments here.

See, Mr. Shabir's statement is fake or true or whatever it is. This is not a matter; he is trying to give useful things only. Is he asking for any money from you or has he made any false promises? I don't think he has given the wrong message here. I am ashamed of my friends' comments. I am not a technical person to explain that situation or analyze the situation. As a human being, just thank the message. It may be a false statement, but don't search in-depth; just take a positive thing and forget the negative.

Dear All,

I would like to add a few technical comments. I am a bit concerned whether this is a story or a hoax email/story.

The technicalities go like this:

1. Joshi is standing on an oil tanker which has been parked for a long time. This tanker has created a flammable medium around it.

2. The 25KV/40KV line distance from the top of the tanker is designed with normal air as the dielectric.

3. The act of taking a photo in the flammable medium may have created a possible spark, leading to further flames which reduced the resistance of the medium.

4. This reduction in resistance may have broken down the dielectric medium above the tanker, causing a short circuit in the 25/40KV line, which then tripped the MCB at the control panel.

All of this happened in a fraction of a second. The spark was the cause. While many may think the 25/40KV line was the cause, it was actually a secondary (but powerful) reason.

Dear All,

I would like to add a few comments from a technical standpoint. I am a bit confused about whether this is a story or a hoax mail/story. The technicalities go like this:

1. Joshi is standing on an oil tanker which has been parked for a long time. This tanker has created a flammable medium around it sphere.
2. The 25KV/40KV line distance from the tanker top is designed keeping in mind the normal air as a dielectric.
3. The act of clicking a photo in the flammable medium has created a possible spark and further flames, which have reduced the medium's resistance (flammable medium).
4. This reduction in resistance has broken down the dielectric medium above the tanker and short-circuited the 25/40KV line, which tripped the MCB at the control panel.

All this happened in a fraction of a second. The cause is a spark. Many think the cause is the 25/40KV line. No, it is the secondary (powerful) reason.

@Balaji,

While the incident posted by Shabbir may be true or false, I strongly disagree with your suggestion to take it at face value. What separates humans from animals and other living beings on this earth is our thinking capability. Our ability to think, quest for knowledge enhancement, and the desire to better our lives result in questioning the current situation, facts, and validating them.

Science has shown that most animals and plants have either become extinct or have remained unchanged for thousands of years, with a few exceptions in terms of evolution. However, the human race has made tremendous advancements over the years, as evidenced by the difference in quality of life between the Stone Age man and the current generation.

It is important to promote scientific and logical reasoning by questioning the status quo and validating every statement so that we can base our judgments on facts rather than fiction or hearsay. Let's apply the same approach on this forum.
