I am working in the construction industry in AP where the women are paid daily wages by dividing the monthly wages by 26 days. We have declared Sunday as a weekly off day. We are working in 2 shifts (12 hrs a shift), and shift changes generally happen on Sunday.
Due to the monthly target set up by our client, sometimes we used to work on Sunday and other holidays as well. Suppose we have worked on Sunday (in both shifts) and could not change the shift, but decided to change the shift on Monday. We worked Monday in the day shift and closed the night shift.
Would it be correct to declare MONDAY AS the weekly off instead of Sunday in this particular case? Would the workers in the night shift on Monday be paid wages for that day without working? Are we liable to pay Double OT on Sunday and normal wages (8 hrs.) to the Monday Night shift workers? Please advise as we need to prepare the wages.

Dear joharsk7,
As mentioned earlier, you should give them the day off on Monday. Since they have already received double pay for the work they did on Sunday, you should designate Sunday as a regular working day and provide them with a weekly day off on Monday. This way, the company will not be required to pay them extra for working on Sunday. Additionally, it is advisable for you to give them a day off before implementing any shift changes.
Thank you.

Dear,
Hoping that your construction industry is covered under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, you are hereby advised to go through the AP Minimum Wages Rules relating to the weekly day of rest, the number of hours of work which shall constitute a normal working day, night shifts, and extra wages for overtime for your query. I hope that after going through these Rules of your State, you will solve your query.
