Dear All,
I, Revathi, am working as an HR in an Organization. I had just passed out from my college and this is my first job. However, I have put in my papers last week because I am planning for further studies. I am in Notice Period now. I would like to share with you all what I am going through in my Notice Period.
First of all after serving for 9 months in this organization I was very upset when I put in my papers. I was one of the best employees according to my Boss. But however when he came to know that I resigned he did not even bother to stop me once. He seemed to be very happy that probably there would not be any excess staffing in HR Department.
Talking about my colleague, he was very insecured about me coz right after I joined; my boss had handed over all the important responsibilities in my hand rather than his hand who was 3 years senior to me. So when he came to know that I have resigned he was very happy and he could not control his excitement. It really hurt me.
My Boss makes me feel everyday that you have resigned. I have handed over my responsibilities to my juniors but I am still there in the organization right. I know I should be practical but as a human being we all have got feelings. And it really hurts sometimes. I have not even left the company and he has started avoiding me in all meetings and started treating me as if I am useless. Wherein in the past I was his favorite employee as he used to say.
Also my colleague who is junior to me sometimes bosses over me as I have resigned.

I can understand that I am behaving immature but I really feel that why did I do so much for my Company which is not even bothered that now I am leaving it.

Dear Revthi,
As because this is your first job you have become very much emotionally attached with the company. I hope in future you will get accustomed with these kinds of circumstances. You are responsible and professional enough and that’s why you are serving the company in your notice period. Have some patients, this is a matter of just few days. Don’t let them understand your feelings. Please do not react, just relax and be cool. This is just a beginning of your career; obviously you will go ahead and have an excellent career after finishing your studies. That time you will remember these days and laugh at yourself. People who don’t understand your value you should never bother for them. Be confident and take care.

Dear Revathi,
What you mentioned happens to many employees......be it in HR or any other profession.
First job is very close to heart of all......that is probably because at that point we have just moved out of college.....close friends....family......and have to face the practical world all by ourselves. We try to give it the best and put our heart and soul into it. But, professionalism says no emotional attachments at the workplace....
From the point of view of the employer, there is no such word as "favourite employee".....these are all means to get the best work out of u......these r motivational tactics so that u remain in the organization.....and now that u r not continuing....there is no need to do all that!
So....understand the professional world as fast as u can so that u dont get hurt again.
All the best to you!

Hi Revathi,
The corporate world is a big bad world. Take this as a lesson to not get so emotionally attached next time. Also, always remember that you must only work for yourself, not for the organization. That way, you cannot let any mean managers and collegues hurt your pride.
Remember, for most companies, employees are nothing but resources!

Hello Revathi,
Control your emotions, this is natural, it happens with all. The more you work for any company the more you will be attached to that commpany. You are hurt bcoz of the attitude of your boss. For your boss you are past and he is consentrating on future, its quite natural, that is the tactics they adopt in any profession. So dont worry and take it as a lesson. Always keep one thing in your mind " Love your profession, not your company"

Its so normal Revathy.

I went through something worse than this.

I was with a company for one year. When I put my papers, my boss did try convincing me. But after realizing that it was of no use he accepted the resignation. Only for two days everyone were okay and shared their feelings of letting me move.

You wont believe - they changed my place - gave me an old (1980's computer desktop), and took away the new flat desktop what I earlier had and gave it to a junior. They moved me away from the entire team place and put me in a corner and lonely place (I was the only person in that corner).

Started telling the other members not to communicate with me.

My boss called me and said that he heard from a trusted person that I am doing so many things to spoil the image of the company internally and forcing many to quit.

I felt hurt as few people looked up to me as their mentor, but later started doubting me and moving away from me.

And finally I ended up doin admin work for everyone during the notice period as I was requested to co-operate and do my best to be helpful in all ways to everyone....

What you went through is normal. Corporates share info only with people thru whom they would benefit in sharing. They forget to respect us as humans.

You have a better thing to do after moving out. Prepare for that. Dont spend time thinking people will come to you and share info with you. Rather spend this time in thinking what you can do to make your life better. But dont treat them back in the same way. Respect them. Because, if tomorrow you/or they have to approach each other on any business related mater - then it would be hard to remove hurt feelings. Keep nothing in mind. On the last day - give everyone sweets and thank each of them personally for their kind co-operation.

There is no better way than this to make them understand your true dedication.

Hi Revathy & Ash...I can quite understand the turmoil you must hav undergone..... Try and get over it and move on... Just understand that you would have better options henceforth.... coz you are moving ahead in life... and don get emotionally attached coz this is a materialistic world.... so irrespective of all these stick on to your priorities...

Dear Friends,
You have all given very good inputs. This is a learning for Revathi. Ms. Revathi you should not forget you are a HR guy and in your future assignments you should remember this and ensure how to take care of the people in thier notice period. You should also not to foget that all this is a train journey and all of us are passengers and we don't know when we will be co-passengers hence it is every responsibility of all of us to respect each other and I don't know over a period of time you may also join the same company at higher position and most of these people behaved in a different manner may report to you or may be benefeciers of your actions hence have patience and don't forget this experience where in we will learn lessons from our mistakes only.
I don't know how your boss as a HR head don't know this mantra. As far as your contribution to the organization is concerned I opine that every employee should work to his best and contribute to the best of the organization hence no excuses. But I am not happy with your colleagues behaving with you differently as they may not be aware that every one is dispensable and nobody is permanent hence they should know that they should also experience the same one day. Hence I feel you should leave all these things for their wisdom and goahead like a swimmer, as the swimmer pushes the water towards sides, back and proced towards his goal.
With best regards - kameswarao
