Charge sheet explains the charges levelled against an employee whereas by means of Show Cause Notice the charge sheeted employee is called upon to 'show cause' why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. Normally show cause notice gives an accused the final opportunity to the accused to prove his innocence after having undergone the usual domestic enquiry procedings. Regards, Madhu.T.K

There is no major difference between show cause notice and the charge sheet. Both meant for giving an opportunity to the employee to submit his explanation on the allegations. It goes by the service conditions. If the allegations are serious in nature, one need to go for charge sheet in which you explain the allegation in detail accommpanied by the list of documents and the list witnesses in support of the allegations. Thereafter, it goes for enquiry, if employee denies the charges. Chargesheet is the word used in criminal proceedings. For departmental actions, it would be better, if we use the word 'chargememo' that too in the present employee friendly scenerio. regards prakash k
