HI Tanya,
I think main reason for your problem is your enivonment and way of thinking, Please dominate these two
I can give you further suggestions on the same.

Well,
It's good that you are doing nice introspection before moving ahead in HR.
What I would suggest here is that you start observing other people especially your role models how they interact with new people.
Try to act like them slowly and gradualy.
Another thing, whenever you get a chance of public speaking don't miss it out anyhow. That's extreemly important to solve your queries fast.
If things work out with these two get back to me we may form further steps, else look out for other ways.
Good luck ahead.

Tanya!
I guess Billsmith advise is best to follow. In addition to that let me tell you one more thing.
Start using your brain before acting on any action advised by others. Think and think and Think, then act.

Dear tanya,
For your first 3 points you can improve by reading motivational book or reading some HR activities book.
For your 4th point you must understand the roles and responsibilities of your nature of work what you are suppose to do and don't. If you once understand this then nobody will ask you to do their work.
For your 5th point, Please follow the seniors as how they handling and tackling the people. If you do not have seniors then you have to search in Google and learn the things.
I hope i could address you in best way.
For any clarifications, You are always welcome to my number.
