Hi,
Since you are planning to use employee coding, the following steps can be taken:
a) employees are coded according to their seniority in the company.(joining date)
b) each department can be coded by their abbreviation.(so that it will be easy to ascertain by the employee code for which department he/she works)
c) each department head, VP etc..can be coded according to their position.
d) employee date of joining can also be included in the coding method.
For eg: Employee A: VPHR020801.
The above is just an example.
In case you do have a better coding system in place, please let me know.
