Hello Seniors,
Today I had a interview with one of the good IT firm. From my side it was a good interview. I answered almost everything except few things for which I was unaware. In the end technical recruiter asked me to wait for 5 mins. After that he told, as we are looking for some more candidates, now you can go, we will call you back. What does that mean? Is it that I should stop expecting any calls from that company??
Please reply.

Anonymous - Yes, there's a strong possibility that you were rejected. The reason a recruiter never tells you the truth (about being rejected) is that it leads to complications and this is a safer way out.

It is not necessary that you have been rejected. The company is looking at other candidates also and comparing performances. A chance still exists that you could get a call from them again.

Dear
It isn't necessary that you were rejected by that recruiter, it may be that he is looking for someone who can meet their criteria which they have planned or may be he is looking for some other candidates so he can get good view of all so he could finalize accordingly. Never ever think that, that recruiter has rejected me, they may have some issue within themselves or the limitations like salary, area, experience, qualification etc etc

If you think that you answered all their quotations well then there are possibilities of
a) They don't have an immediate need and interviewing people for future requirement or
b) The salary expectations mentioned by you are beyond their budget/system.

But why is that, recruiter doesnt tells the truth about rejection directly? Its better to face the truth rather keeping on the false hope and then getting frustrated and thinking later why the recruiter rejected. The recruiter can at least tell points for improvement. I know this wont to anything good for the recruiter but atleast for the job hunter it would help.

Recruiter is in the business of recruitment.
If candidate X is unsuitable,he is going to look for candidate Y,there is no reason for him to tell X -you are rejected and make X feel bad.Certain things are best understood by indications.
If a candidate does not hear from recruiter for some days-either you ring up or look around for other jobs.
One who is not fit for one type of job may be good in another job,so rejection should never demoralise, but make one put in efforts to analyse reasons and move on.One door closes another door will open.

Any recruiter will go for a wider choice by calling more people than than his actual requirement. Some posts will need specific basic requirements, then choice moves to experience and candidates attitude, then only moves to CTC. In very rare case CTC may be the reason rejection that too after discussing/negotiating only. After completion of the interview, the selection committee will discus about the suitable candidate and conclude. So await for the call. Some time they may opt for a fresh interview too in the event of Specific requirement for the post. However, you can, in your own interest, can call either in person or over phone the recruiter and ask about the outcome of your interview.
