Hi, I joined in a company on a contract basis with a salary of 30,000 per month and every month a check of 27,000(194j - 10% deduction) was given to me. Now the contract was about to expire. I submitted my profile to job portals but mails that i am getting from the companies were asking me to submit my latest payslips or asking if its a contract/Permanent Position. For payslips i contacted my company HR, she said that for contract employees they wont provide Payslips.

My current queries which have to be clarified are as below.

1) Do companies provide payslips to contract employees? If yes please send across the general format of the same.

2) Without Payslips if i take a letter from HR stating my salary details will suffice the purpose while attending interviews?

3) Recently when i attended a walk-in, in the filtration process i was eliminated at the start without conducting the first round(in spite of me showing a letter from HR department stating my salary and working period)what should be my approach in such scenarios?

4) Being a contract employee does it have an impact on the interview calls which I get?

Its very urgent. Please help. Thanks & Regards

Dear Venkatesh
If somebody is engaged in any organization on contract basis as you had written, then organization don't issued any payslip as everything i.e. duration of the contract, compensation etc is mentioned in the contract. The contract in itself is a sufficient documents for attending the interview.

Dear Venkatesh

I feel sad that you didn't get thee desired response(s) so far.

Perhaps, next time if you give more information about yourself and the nature of your job; you might get our members hooked enough to come out with their views.

Hope the information below helps you in your endeavour :

1. Generally companies DO NOT issue Pay-slips to contractual employees - as it would prove a nexus, and they may be forced to take that person on their regular roll (see Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act 1970)

2. Yes. If a good HR is willing to certify your salary; it should suffice.

3. A company, while hiring, will consider the BEST candidate available. you"ll agree that a regular job is valued over a contractual one.

4. It depends on the kind of job, the job-sector and the company. For example, in IT, Advertising, Hotel & Leisure industry, Journalism & Media etc. contractual assignment/job may not have any adverse impact; but in case of traditional sectors and in certain positions; it may have tremendous impact - as already mentioned by you.

Wish you all the best for your interview.

\Warm regards.

Dear Mr. Raj Kumar
I am differing with your statement "1. Generally companies DO NOT issue Pay-slips to contractual employees - as it would prove a nexus, and they may be forced to take that person on their regular roll (see Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act 1970)"
Even the Contract Workmen engaged through Contractor are also to be issued with the Pay Slip by the Contractor and not by the Principal Employer. The format is available in CL Rules 1971 - Form 19 and in Minimum Wages Rules - Form 4E.
As per the statement of Mr. Venkatesh, he is getting the Cheque for Rs.27000/- every month. To prove his salary receipt, he can even produce the Bank Statement and the Contract Document issued by the employer during the Walk In Interview.
