course of employment ??
was the employee at duty and working at the time of death? if yes then employer has to report the same immediately to ESIC vide form 12 labour inspector and chief inspector of factories
There is no concept of dependent benefit under ESIC, if formalities are done properly and the 1st aid / treatment gone through ESIC chanal then the employee was eligible for medical treatment and funeral expenses
Under EPFO there are several benefits available to nominee, ask the HR personal if KYC compliance has been completed, then they would help to proceed further

Dear sir,
Further to your reply for the thread regarding death benefit for dependent of the insured person, as per section 52 with provision of 6(a)of section 2 dependents are eligible for dependent benefit

there are plenty of acts and regulations, for benefit claim of the employees, state-wise it differs also, even without ESIC EPF, there are certain welfare from state govt, but everything is dependent on documentary compliance. in practical the ground reality display is 180 degree opposite
if the employee got dead within duty hours, what procedures the employer maintained to report to concerned departments?
immediate filing of ESIC form 12 is mandatory to establish that the death place and date/time was duty place.
if it is done properly, then the nominee / Family members can be in position to file claim
