Hi!
The best appraisal method should have the following features/ characteristics:
1. The system & procedures eliminate most (if not all) of the problems (e.g. favoritism, subjectivity, bias, etc) being encountered in appraisals.
2. The performance factors and outputs required are determined and agreed by both superior and employee. The factors and outputs listed must be MBO type to eliminate subjectivity.
3. The system provides for an opportunity for employees to be informed about the ratings they get, and given the reasons for such ratings.
4. The system provides for an opportunity for employees to be told about the areas that need their attention and improvement if they want to stay long and be successful in the company.
5. The results of the appraisal is linked to recognition, rewards, and/ or sanction.
Best wishes.
