Hi Arunima
I do agree as its difficult to handle the best performers. Infact its crucial too as we can't leave the performers. It is better to have a proper counselling with the employee. Call her and discuss what is her problem, check whether its real or just a news that you received. It is better to change her attitude right now before it spreads or grows more

Dear Ms. Arunima Datta,

Best greetings for the day!

The concerned employee could be the one-off whom you have discovered talking negative. The chances are ripe that there could be others as well. The reasons could be any and many. However, before the situation worsens you need to seriously introspect and put your acts in place before its time-out. A one-to-one interaction with employees may jeopardize your other strategic initiatives.

As far as I can best suggest is that your team members need to undergo a professional counseling and if need be undergo a professional training based on motivational and inspirational themes. Such training will enable you to identify the real culprits, as in the mischief mongers and you will be able to differentiate and identify some employees who genuinely need some emotional and holding.

Motivational speaker seminars are the best way to spread your message across to your colleagues and hence, I recommend the name of Mr. Vivek Bindra, a highly respected name in the corporate training industry and a motivational/keynote speaker at par with excellence. He is the Founder-CEO of Global Academy for Consulting and Training or Global ACT - one of the leading corporate training companies in India today. Mr. Vivek Bindra is renowned for delivering numerous concept-based and soft skills training programs through his unique and impeccable style. He is the 'Life-Coach' for many renowned dignitaries and CEOs representing big corporate businesses, both in India and abroad.

Besides providing a wide range of corporate training programs and professional training to its valued client organizations, Global ACT also undertakes project-based organizational interventions and other allied and similar business activities to facilitate it's client organizations.

I sincerely hope you would be satisfied with my reply.

I wish for the best coming your way for all your endeavors.

Good Luck!

"Negative things" - are those things factually true or an embellishment? If true, the management should be thankful. Please note that dissent is the essence of management. The management should provide opportunities, so that devoted employees can express their opinions, honestly and fearlessly, with a sense of belonging..

Best way to counsel him / her, people of this kind are having problem at personal fronts... thats why their personal negativity comes to professional life... best way to have a good friendly relation with him/her and try to counsel his/her professional / personal problem.... many a times only good listening skills solves the problem. Trainings and seminars will not solve the problem... personal touch and one to counselling will be better way....

Hi Arunima,
Acknowledge the grudge in an official way in a one to one meeting. Every employee including you has a right to not like your workplace and say things in response. You don't want that to be touched or taken away. Its unreal.
In your meeting stretch out the definition of Best Performer for this employee including their responsibility in maintaining harmony.
You may sweetly remind her of that and see how it goes from there.
Try and read between the lines as I say , "also you need to accommodate more people in your best performer category and let the competition around work sustain or your organization won't".
Cheers
