We are in process of revisiting our deputation allowance policy and would like to understand the benchmark from software companies like Infosys, Wipro and likes of IT services organisations. For quick understanding deputation allowance is allowance paid to employees when they are based in client location in same or other city in India.

Hi Sameena,
Deputation allowance generally paid when posted to work outside your normal posting, especially in clients' sites, projects especially in remote areas to encourage them to complete before time and to compensate addl expenses/hardship undergone. The norm is 10% of basic & DA but it's not a rule and need not be limited. It should be considered on case to case basis depending on the responsibilities attached and extra time, incl.work from home and how crucial the project to complete in time. This would mean penalty/liquidated damages involved if time & cost over run is risked. A higher % age may be considered where risks, remote places are involved.
