Dear Sreenivasan,

To become a generalist, there is no specific set of rules. According to me, to have a general idea of all the HR streams, you will have to read materials related to all the topics concerning HR. You will have to focus on all aspects of HR. To gain more knowledge about the subject, try to work in a company where you can get more exposure to different HR activities going on there. Don't stick to a particular task only; observe how other tasks are being done.

In short, it depends on you how open you are to absorbing information from all sources, known or unknown.

All the Best,
Anjali
