Professional Tax is deducted on Total Gross Salary earned.
You also want to know whether Tax Deducted from Basic Salary, which Tax you are asking about please clarify to respond. As per my best knowledge there is no Tax component which is calculated on Basic Salary. Basic Salary is taken into account only for PF.
If you are asking TDS i.e. Tax Deducted at Source then it is calculated on Total Taxable Income
