Dear Seniors,

I am working in a software development company of strength of 23 people as an HR executive. It was me who started the HR department 10 months back. I have introduced so many new process and techniques related to HR in my company. I use to get time to time review of my work and my Boss was very happy with my work. But recently at the time of my half yearly review my MD told me that my work is only satisfactory and I got 3 out of 5 pointer scale. He told me that I do not take Iniative, I should be proactive. However, being proactive I started many CSR activities, Joining Procedures, Recruitements process, Organised a trip for the team, recently organised Company Day and day to day HR and business related activities for which most of the people in my office really appreciated my work.
Also at the same pointer the other employees(All are software development) got more salary increement then me. I am really feeling cheated, as if I am doing nothing for my company. My profile is not to get the direct revenue but to indirectly getting more productivity. then why this kind of attitude was shown to me. I am really dipressed and day by day getting less enthusiatic towards my job.

Pls. guide me what to do and how to appoach proactively?

Dear Swati ,
I assure you that yours is not an exceptional experience.Infact it is usual with most private sector industries.Probably ,what they mean by proactive is visibility.It is worthwhile to start with an agenda directly from the CEO and his key persons.If you may try again with a small survey of their expectations and start working on it.May be you nees to repeat this exercise frequently.
I shall be keen to see your success.However donot get disheartened since ours is a thankless job.

It takes a lot of hard work to start a process. Starting something new and with a fresh approach is not an easy job. It is really commendable that you have handled such a responsibility with utmost effectiveness.



There may be many things which would be appreciated in future, if not now. People and departments who bring revenues and are main functions are always counted first. HR is a support function which management believes that its not as hard as other functions.



But like others said, continue doing your good work. If your work is not appreciated, it will become a motivational factor for you to perform even better. In any case, your learnings will be enhanced which would benefit you in the future.

Dear Swati,
Lemme tell you one thing, plz don get dipressed with wat u got nw! coz u knw wat? appraisal system is very diffrnt from wat we learnt frm our MBA. Its merely a bias and I wud say it is just follows the quota system n they play wit that. Swati, lemme giv u an idea, wat u done so far was noteworthy, coz being an HR generalist, I knew hw I struggle to get an approval to execute a task. Keep in mind wat ever u do, bring in the key people of your organisation and make an impact tat every one knws u and every one shud wait for u with anxity, wat is next from u?! . I suggest, organize a communication meeting, such tat MD or the top notch Person of ur organisation to address all ur executives and make sure the meeting shud be a kind of informal discussion. Swati, apart from all these, I belive one shud have to have self- efficacy, which will not leav us dwn, I am sure. Array, if not u get recognized here, wait for good opening and push off, which is a very practical desision!...Work Smart n Keep Rockin...

When the HR is delivered as a operational functions it does not add a great value to
the organization. Bring more strategic intiatives which is alined to the oraganizational goals and complements the revenue.This paradigm shift will put your carrer in the fast track.

@Chum:- in past 5 months I have worked on Communication and English speaking culture in my company. I have organised several Presentation sessions, GDs also a 10 Day training program in which we hired a trainer from outside. Also on every weekend I organise some team building and fun activities. Currently I am active on the communication program in my company but my MD is not recognising it because things hasn't changed much.
Pls. tell me what do I do now to create a better workforce (Enthusiastic team, Fun loving, Great communication skills ) in my office?

Dear Swati,
Good tat u have done niz job to ur people. Swati, I was talking about Communication Meeting n not Communication Training program. Communication Meeting is a kind of meeting where lower mgmt people have face to face interaction with top mgmt people, it is a form whr ur MD wud address the query of the people, any suggestions, ideas, process improvement and any sort of such matters cud be discussed n put in to action, and swati, mind tat this exercise will build a healthy relatioship with top people, whr u will be the back bone of this activity. Coming to ur query on communication training program, u have asked for Enthusiastic team, Fun loving, and Great communication skills. I wud suggest to cover first two modules, u can introduce a concept called "Fun at work". With in the 8 hrs, wat is tat u can do to ease the job tension / pressure. "Fun at work" talks abt how to work wit ease n how to tackle work pressure wit ease. Will get a presentation if u need. Lemme clear Swati, u r talking about communication of English Language r business communication......Smarter u plan, wiser u execute!.......Keep Rocin....

I would like to get the presentation. And I was talking about both the Communication. For good business communication, one has to be good in English Communication 1st. We have most of our clients in US hence, this is the most critical and important factor in my company.
