Hi You have to register for the Service Tax only if your annual turnover or income crosses 8 Lakhs, if not then explain your client as your income is lesser than the Service tax Exemption limit

Dear Satish,
There is no connection between the service tax and ESI and PF. Service tax is with regard to the tax Law. ESI and PF is relates to Labour Law. If you have employee is more than 10 you should take ESI registration. If you have employee more than 20 then you should take PF registration.
Regarding service tax if your company has a tune over of more than 9 Lakhs in the previous year, then only you need to take Service Tax registration.

I think the service tax exemption limit is 10 L. If the turnover exceeds 10L, service tax will apply. The applicable % of ST in FY 2012-13 is 12.36% incl. surcharge & cess. Pon

Dear Mr.Sathish,
Refer to your query on the above subject,As a contractor you have to comply and also fulfill statutory requirements under Labour enactments. For Service Tax if your turnover exceeds more than 10 lakhs you will pay service Tax @ 12.36%incl.surcharge & cess for every month and remit the same through online to the tax authorities. You can approach Central Excise Department of your area concerned for registration and guidance. For PF & ESI if your organisation engaged more than 10 memebers on any day of the preceding twelve months, you will comply under ESI & PF Acts. Please contact the authorities for registration and guidance.

Service tax is payable after turnover of 10 lakhs but registration is needed when you cross 9 lakhs. I hope you have not been charging service tax to your client and not paying the same to government. Cause then you will be in big trouble.
If you need to pay service tax, you need to apply for a number with the local service tax office. They will give you the service tax number generally in 1 week. They don't charge anything, officially or unofficially.
Once you get the number, you need to pay the tax amount, generally online through your bank. Also you need to file returns twice a year in October and April.
But has your client asked for service tax challan or pf esic challan ?
