Recently I had a discussion with the Commissioner, Coal Mines Provident Fund. During inspection of documents by him, he pointed out that nothing from the minimum wages circulated by Ministry of Labour and Employment (Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner) for the concerned region shall be applicable to the Coal Mines as Coal Mines are governed by mines act 1952 and all the wages paid to contractor labour shall be in accordance to the National Coal Wages Agreement which gets revised from time to time (Currently IX running). Actually the discussion was regarding the minimum wages for contractual watch and ward personnel deployed in mines and offices premises. Need some clarification in this matter

Hi,
the minimum wages for watch & ward personnel in coal mines is as under:
1. For DGR empanelled personnel, posted in non - mining areas such as Headquarters offices etc., the minimum wages is as prescribed by DGR.
2. For watch & ward personnel posted in coal mining areas, the minimum wages is as prescribed by the High Power Committee constituted for Coal Mines which is the mid-way wages between the minimum wages as per NCWA (National Coal Wage Agreement) and the minimum wages as prescribed by the Central Govt. for non-coal mines.
Kindly correct me if any wrong info. posted.
Thanks.
