Hi Members
I am in a dilema. My boss is really a difficult person and his biggest problem is that he favors only those whom he has himself recurited. I am one of the few people whom he has not recurited and this is where my problem starts.
I have been working in this company for last 11 months and there is no signs of increment (though I have not asked for it myself). I feel that increment is not something that one has to ask for.
Now, I want an increment else I am ready to resign. Please let me know how can ask for an increment in a very diplomatic manner (also, I want to make my boss realise that he is being unfair as everyone recurited by him has got an increment).
Help me with this matter and also how to go about an increment in a diplomatic manner as I can stand favouritism and if I talk then it will turn into a heated argument which I dont want.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Prachi,
It feels terrible to have such kind of boss. If you dont see any growth or job satisfaction in the present company, its high time you should look out for a better job.
Why being diplomatic when you know you deserve the hike? You can directly talk to him about your performance and increment.

Why are you grovelling?? Get out and get yourself another job! No need to stick around where you're not wanted and there are many good companies - go and look out and land a better paying job - u'll restore your self confidence doing that!

Hi Prachi,
Wow! your situation is so similar to mine !
But even though I agree about increments being given without asking... sometimes a push or a hint in the right direction does not hurt. If your boss doesnt like you then it is necessary that you ask for your increment:
1. Make a list of all the tasks that u have done well esp those where you have exceeded expectations
2. Think about how u r going to talk abt your increment - making a strong pitch for an increment based on the above list
3. Schedule a time of half an hour with your boss (yes..do make a formal appt --tell him that its to talk abt your increment and work in the org)
4. put forth th pitch and wait for his reaction.
if u r given a positive response then good for you! but if thats not the case then i suggest that u shud start searching for a better job.
It might help to put that list and your pitch formally in the mail to your boss and his seniors after he has given you an answer in the negative

OH and one word of caution .....
it might be best if you already have a few possible opportunities lined up b4 u put all of that in mail... :D I dont think your boss will quite be pleased abt that

Wow....it's unfortunate your in this type of position. I'am blessed to work with a management staff that treats everyone fairly & gives you what is deserved.
Here's the question does your company have a handbook? What's the rule of thumb regarding performance reviews & pay raises? Most companies highlight this information in there handbook. Although all performance reviews do not mean pay raise but if it's deserved & you will know that with the scoring of the review then you are entitled to it.
I personally agree with alot of the other comments made, if your not being treated fairly i would definitley start looking for employment else where because nothings WORST then going to a place we spend majority of our time & not being comfortable and enjoying the environment. Good luck & I wish you much success.

Try job in another Company.
Working only with an eye to the anticipated benefits, means that the quality of performance of the current job or duty suffers - through mental agitation of anxiety for the future. In fact, the way the world works means that events do not always respond positively to our calculations and hence expected fruits may not always be forthcoming. So, the Gita tells us not to mortgage present commitment to an uncertain future

Hi Prachi
unfortunately i am facing the same problem in my office. my boss also believes in favoritism and has some favorites in the office. people suggests us to quit the job but as u've also said, it's difficult to get a good job.
