How should we spear the word about cite.co - do the members think it\'s worth while for people to come and use this service?
Not fishing for compliments - just a genuine curiosity about how we should go about spreading the word.

Hello Sid, Was SEO considered? Many corporates go for SEO/SEM to popularize/extend their reach thru the web/internet — usually effective too. Rgds, TS

Hi Sateesh,
Yeah we do extensive research on SEO and implement a lot of things. Other than that (Cite Contribution) has started getting involved in events.
Our goal is to help create sub networks in locations and we are trying to incorporate that into the site. But what I feel we need understand is the use cases or needs of the users. Anything particularly troubling or time consuming when people work - anything related to information or psychology of what users are feeling.
The importance of this sort of a community is extremely important and many companies have asked me about how this was created - as in India is pretty difficult to get people to open up online (unlike the tech industry where a lot is shared). Any thoughts?

Sid

Hello Sid,

I guess this is a very valuable & apt topic for a brainstorming session--seriously.

One thing that comes to my mind is location-specific chapters--which you already seem to be incorporating.

Another point that I can think of is to incorporate a Domain/sector-specific Group/chapter, since quite a few [though not all] HR issues/situations tend to be sector-specific.

One more thing that comes to my mind is to encourage discussions/threads with technical content/issues in CiteHR [which have been there, but far in-between] AND have links to relevant technical websites. Though this would enable solving the issue(s) posted as the IMMEDIATE result / consequence, my primary intent for this is long-term--to take CiteHR into the discussion rooms of techies, since ANY function/department/role essentially boils-down to one common factor: PEOPLE/HR.

Conversely, using SEO, CiteHR could also be backlinked in various technical sites for solutions to any HR-related issues.

Hope you get my point.

I am sure there would be other suggestions too--all it takes is some deep thinking by the members.

Hi Sateesh,

Thanks, you have a very interesting point about sector specific issues - great thinking. Can you give me some examples of these? I think these can be tackled by creating tags for those sector specific issues. That way users will be able to subscribe to those tags and be notified in real time if something comes up. But I need to understand how to identify these sector and encourage the users to mark their threads appropriately.

One of the things which is fascinating me these days is the "power of suggestion" - I am reading up about psychology and on brain function. The ideas these military and religious organizations use to control people are an eye opener. The same techniques should work in creating constructive ideas in people. I am just starting out on this but I have written an article about my preliminary thoughts here.

The idea that I run this community is in itself strange - I was never very academic, had no interest in management (I studied computer science). But a series of incidents led me to start this and then commit myself to the development of this network. If we go back in my history I am sure we will find exact concepts with which my brain got wired because of which the outcome brought me to this stage.

If that is the case, and we are in fact getting wired to do the things we will do in the future. A lot of influence can be exerted by people. And it is becoming increasingly evident in our newspapers and media channels. Everything is programmed to create a certain response and I bet they are getting quite good at it. If it can be used to create power for the influential people, the same can be used to empower the people themselves.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Sid

This is just a suggestion. if there is a possibility of enrolling domain knowledge experts , it would be great.
For eg- i have a query in the domain of law/legal.i post it today. if i have the assurance that i would get a valuable answer( for free:P) within a day or two. it would be a great help for people in general.for exmaple , if you see ht.campus. they have eminent career councellors with pictures. (Ask Questions, Career Questions, Ask Questions on Education, Courses and Colleges in India - HTCampus)
i am not disregarding the suggestion of every contributing member, yet the assurance of a domain knowledge expert's advise would probably enhance the value of the entire concept.

Hi Indira,

Thanks, it's a great suggestion. We have tried to get some subject matter experts online but most are very busy and can't really spare time for voluntary work. For this reason we allow everyone to promote their businesses - on the condition that the promotion will only be limited to your signature.

It actually adds a lot of value for the consultants and service providers as people like to work with other good people - nobody like fraud. One way of making your expertise and character known is by participating and helping others.

These documents are going to be online for a long time and many will read them. It's an ideal opportunity for these consultants and service providers to showcase their expertise. This is actually becoming a trend where businesses willingly write informative articles to become known as subject matter experts.

We have described it in our introductory video and hope more people will pick this up. Cite.Co.mp4 - YouTube

anyways citehr is such a big hit amongst HR and others , that people would anyways get to know! like i did! yet it certainly makes sense to atleast have a link ( either text/image or ) to cite.co in the homepage of all the other communities , coz, logically it is supposed to be the mother of all - citehr, citesales , citefin etc.. )( probably an image link somewhere above the user testimonial).disclaimer - just a layman suggestion

Dear Sid,

As you are aware,I am avid user of this site. I have posted large number of advices to young and upcoming HR/Training professionals. In my training programmes or whenever I go for meeting, I have mentioned about this forum. I found HR professionals are aware of this forum. Not that they do not know. However, major problem is quality of discussion. Very basic issues are discussed in this forum.

Secondly, many members are lazy. They do not use Google search engine or use this forum itself before raising this query.

What is the important is sharing the experience - good or bad. Not many members do this.

Lot of knowledge sharing happens on this site. However, how many members have come forward and given a case study of what problems they faced while implementing that knowledge in their company?

Quality discussion is key for spreading the word. I am also member of several groups on Linkedin. I find quality of the discussion is far superior. The posts are crisp and so are their replies. Secondly, nobody bothers for "knowledge sharing". Just ask your problem and that is all.

In the name of "knowledge sharing", this cite has promoted "copy cats" in a big way.

I don't know whether you will like my above comments but these are my honest opinions!

Thanks,

Hello Mr. Sid and greetings to all

Well first, I would like to express my most sincere thanks to you for taking action to start this discussion.

Second, the question about services and use of this place and what role Cite is playing in the life of users and professionals today, actually cannot be express easily. I personally have numbers of contacts from this place and outside world that have appreciated and expressed themselves about Cite Network (CiteHR, CiteSales) and feel great to be a member of this site.

The CONTRIBUTION, what Cite has given to our professional world today with almost every possible sector, field is amazing, and people hardly found the same with other professional sites. I do not think there is more need to say because Google and other search engines are already saying a lot to us in our daily life in every minute.

In addition, we are getting more and more new members daily, is the live example but still as we all know and talking here about that there are lots of things which we require to develop, and the first one is RECOGNITION.

Once I remember when I was talking to a friend regarding HR Generalist profile and career (She is from Media Sector), she admitted that Cite has helped her in many things but still are not using it regularly because of a reason but found it really helpful. She read the post and discussions and did the same copy-paste whenever she required even without using her membership (Signing in) as Mr Divekar has also pointed out here.

There were two things what I discovered while our conversation: Cite is really helping to people, not only the people who are member but to all who are not a member of this site yet. Second, that she never cared to spend time and found numbers of threads on a single topic and the question was repeating constantly (personal and shared experience by other friends), which always put her in confusion that never made her to spent much time on Cite, but the other side is that she found it really helpful at some point.

I immediately expressed myself to her and asked her to spend some good time at cite and share her views/ experiences with us. I did not say much but I promised her that once she will start communicating, certainly would say thanks to me and she did the same subsequently.

Cite is not just good but best place for us today and helping to many people however, we cannot ignore the problems what we having day by day that making our place dirty. I would use “DIRTY” bcz of unprofessional elements (Jokes, Poem and other as stated above) being posted here which really needs to control and for that development/changes are required.

It is good to know and understand the problems of users, so that, the required changes can be made which will certainly help us but my question is how can we make our cite best and top professional site with Professionals Recognition and Ethics with not just specific location/sector/ field but for all?

Cite.com is not location specific but an INTERNATIONAL forum as we having users across the Globe, which is not just for the people who are from HR world but for everyone with the purpose of Career/ Education Advice, Knowledge Sharing and much more. But, can we really see us today at this level which we wanna achieve so far with the present contribution, and how much big role are we playing, what we more need to develop to reach every professionals house are another few questions. Moreover, I seriously wanna see this and hoping to have the day soon.

Furthermore, here we already are having forum options for specific subject/post but how many members are actually using it properly is also a big concern. I also agree with you Mr. Sid that sector specific issues can be solves by Tagging, which is available here.

Mr. Sid thanks once again that you have shard your story that how you have developed this place and have given us a good network and for the Introductory Video on YouTube.com I personally feel great to be a member of Cite and cannot say how much I learn in my daily life because of CiteHR.

Your statement “If it can be used to create power for the influential people, the same can be used to empower the people themselves.” is one of my new learning today.
