There is no bar to contribute over 21000/- employees but for this segment the employer and employee both has to pay on gross wages and the benefit ceiling would be restricted at par with 21000/- workers

Hi
The Act provides to cater to employees and their families who are drawing a salary/wages up to and including INR 21000.00 per month only as a rule.
The very purpose of the Government to enact an Act called ESI is to see that the workers/employees in the lower strata of the society are given some sort of assurance as far as health is concerned. Most of them do not care to go for insurance nor do they have enough money to spare to take care of their health. ESIC was intended to cater to these people and the salary limit was taken into consideration taking various factors.
You can only go for some other group health insurance policies outside the ESI.
Thanks and Regards

Hi,
Only those employees whose monthly salary is less than or equal to 21000 rupees can avail the Employee State Insurance (ESI) scheme.
