Hi All,

I hope you all are safe and sound.

I need a help from you so I am writing this post. One of the female employees in our company wants to change her name in the all official company records. After marriage, her name changed. She has submitted all the supporting documents with the new name. We are a Private Limited IT company. Management wants me to check the process of employee name change at organisation level. We will document this process and it will be used for future queries in this regard. What all things we need to take care of at organisation level to change her name? What is the legal and official process is there for the same? Any help in this regard will be really very helpful.

Thanks!
Vaishali

The legal process is to get the name change request registered before the Collector and then there has to be a press notification in any local newspaper. Thereafter, the employee would be known by the new name.
This is subject to the condition that the employee submits all the education qualification certificates, adhar card etc in the new name.

I am curious.

Why would the woman need to have all her educational qualifications changed? She obtained those qualifications under her maiden name, and there is no logical reason for change. And secondly, why would an institution agree to change the name? Changing historical records without a very good reason is never to be countenanced.

The company knows her maiden name and now her married name. If anyone questions her regarding the name on documents, she only has to tell them. In any case, she will have a marriage certificate which lists both her maiden name and her husband's name. This is just bureaucratic nonsense and totally unnecessary.
