Can anybody advise me which is best foreign language to learn, it is just for hobby or may be if an opportunity comes for interpreter or translator job. I am based in chennai, from what I found out thro internet French is the best language, can anybody help me, also I want to know whether I can learn the same from any person who is already expert in the language.

You are correct that French is one of the best languages that you can learn. Moreover, you have a good opportunity to learn this language because your neighbor location Pondicherry is full of French and you have lot of options available there. Not only to learn French, but also you can become a translator or teacher, or can go for any foreign affairs related jobs within your area.
So, I suggest you to use the opportunity to learn this language and use the opportunities as they may come. You will also find so many natives of this language around you in Pondicherry so there is a tremendous scope for you to improve over this language.
You can also go for Arabic, Spanish, etc but you will only be restricted to books and wont be able to communicate with anyone in your surroundings. Always remember, if there's a community attached to any language, you can see some scope of opportunities there.
