The ambient air quality of a place and the emissions levels discovered by ambient monitoring are directly impacted by the monitoring done at stationary sources, as well as the monitoring done at other types of sources, such as mobile sources like autos, which also have an impact on the ambient air quality of a region. Monitoring of the air quality in the ambient environment is obligatory in order to ascertain whether or not a certain geographical region or area satisfies the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for the pollutants in question. (For the EPA's websites on NAAQS and Ambient Monitoring, see the links that have been provided below.) Monitoring of emissions from fixed sources is the primary focus of this investigation. Monitoring of emissions from stationary sources is necessary to provide evidence that a source is compliant with the standards outlined in federal regulations or in state regulations that are a component of a state's State Implementation Plan (SIP). The majority of the monitoring that stationary sources are required to carry out is connected to a particular regulation that came about as a direct result of the Clean Air Act (CAA).
