If you have one person who is having expertise to design and implement the system internally then you can design the system yourself. Or else it will be very difficult to handle independently. Please take the help of a consulting organization.

I fully endorse the view of Mr. Dilip if you want to implement in true sense then without hand holding from expert you can not move forward. As it is not only about certification alone but also to know about other requirements an organisation subscribes. You have not mentioned type of industry / Business you are doing along with location. I hope you are ISO 9K Organization if it is so then First of all you purchase ISO 14001 STANDARD . go through it . list out your activities and find out it's impact on environment ( depletion of resources , impact on soil , water , air ) list out your present control for the same . After that to reduce impact list out what steps you can take ... you can use rating system to quantify impact .. Let us start the activity .for Green Environment ... Green India.
