Hi everybody,
I am a summer trainee doing a summer project on competency mapping in my own company.I have been asked to prepare a competency model for the first four levels in my organisation, especially the Associate Consultant,Consultant,Senior Consultant and the Consultant level. What i do realise is that i need to find out the various competencies of an IT professional in each of these levels and then form a competency model on the basis of that. But the topic is very confusing and i dont know how to go about it!!If you guys could help me with some information then i will be ever grateful and thankful to u guys.If u already have some competencies identified for an IT professional pls send it to me and also send me a sample competency model for an individual working at any level.
Thanks in advance anyways.
If any of u cant post something here then mail me at sharmistha.chakravartygmail.com

Hi
Can I recommend that you have a look at the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), the UK standard for IT professional skills. It was set up in 1999 and is now on its 3rd release. It has about 500 organisations using it in the UK - some very large, some quite small.
You can download SFIA from www.sfia.org.uk for no charge. You can also browse through the competencies at www.sfia3.com.
As well as effectively being the IT professional standard in the UK, SFIA is now being adopted elsewhere (increasingly in the US) and has been translated into Japanese.
For other thoughts on IT competencies, see my blog: http://donaldhtaylor.wordpress.com/2...il-ipcm-et-al/
If you would like to know anything more, please mail me at .
Best regards
Don
Disclosure: I am a volunteer member of the Steering Committee of the SFIA Foundation, but have no financial interest in SFIA. Also, the SFIA3.com web site runs on software provided by my company, InfoBasis .

Dear Sharmistha
My pleasure. If I can help in any other way, please do mail me on . We have recently started a SFIA User Group in the UK, so even if I cannot help you, I can find someone else who can.
Best regards

Dear Sharmistha This is slightly complex. It requires patience to evolve the competency matrix and the employee skill level Regards Venkat
