Hi...
Intellectual Answers…………..
Go Through' it.
Question 1: You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:
An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.
You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first;
or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back.
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.
The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?
He simply answered:
"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."
Question 2: What will you do if I run away with your sister?"
The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match for my sister than you sir"
Question 3: Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What is one morning you woke up found that you were pregnant.
Girl - I will be very excited and take an off, to celebrate with my husband.
Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why I should think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked
Question 4: Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived kept before the candidate, then he asked what is before you?
Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea"
He got selected.
You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before.
(Answer: The question was "What is before you (UA - alphabet)
Reply was "TEA" ( TA - alphabet)
Alphabet "TA" was before Alphabet "UA"
Question 5: Where Lord Ram would have celebrated his "First Diwali"? People will start thinking of Ayodya, Motile [Janaki's place], Lanka etc...
But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna Killing Narakasura. In Dusavataar, Krishnavathaar comes after Raamavathaar.
So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!
Question 6: The interviewer asked to the candidate "This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u have kept your files."
Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and told that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked how did u get to know that this being the central point of this table, then he answers quickly that sir UA hr not likely to ask any more question, as it was the last question that UA promised to ask.....
And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness. ........

The interviewer said, "I shall either ask you ten easy questions or one really difficult question. Think well before you make up your mind!" The boy thought for a while and said, "My choice is one really difficult question." "Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! Now tell me this. 'What comes first, Day or Night?'" The boy was jolted into reality as his admission depends on the correctness of his answer, but he thought for a while and said, "It's the DAY, sir!" "How?" the interviewer asked. "Sorry sir, your deal was to ask me ONE difficult question only and that you will not ask me a SECOND difficult question!" He was selected.

Hi Gayatri,
Good questions and answers indeed...
Vaibhav: I agree that only a few of many would have such an intellectual mind. However, I strongly believe that giving such answers can often land you in a soup. How would you judge the mind of the interviewer? You never know if the interviewer asking any question is smart enough to understand such replies.
I myself faced a situation:
Question: What if you were asked to jump out of the window right now? (We were on the 3rd floor)...
Me: I climbed the window and jumped. Only to the interviewer's surprise, I jumped inside the room (he never said I'd have to jump out). I don't know what he was expecting, but I read between the lines and acted accordingly. To my surprise, I wasn't selected.

Hi Gayathri,
Very interesting indeed. I am reminded of a small story of a school cricket team. The boy failed in the 4th standard and could not be promoted to the 5th standard. The other boys were very upset because this boy who failed was an excellent cricketer. His non-passing meant that the middle school team would be very weak. So, all the students went to the Headmaster and requested him to somehow promote the boy to the 5th standard.
The Headmaster agreed, subject to the boy passing a very simple test. He told the student that he would ask him the spelling of one word. If he correctly stated even one alphabet of the word, he would promote him. All the boys were overjoyed as even the dullest boy could pass this test.
The Headmaster asked the boy to spell the word "COFFEE." The boy answered the question but failed. He had spelled the word as "KAUPHY." Not a single alphabet was correct.

Hi Questions were very tricky. All my answers were different to it. Really good questions with smart answers... :P Thanx.
Hi Pk,
Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate. Then he asked, "What is before you?" (Here he mentioned the alphabet 'U').
Candidate: Instantly replied, "Tea" (Alphabet 'T').
He got selected. You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before.
Answer: The question was "What is before you (U - alphabet)". The reply was "TEA" (T - alphabet). Alphabet "T" was before Alphabet "U".
I hope now you understood....

These are the questions which can be found in exercises in Lateral Thinking. Usually, no interviewer asks such questions. Instead, if any of the readers can contribute responses to questions like, "Tell about yourself", "what are your weaknesses", that will immensely benefit.
Very nice post, Gayatri. In fact, one of my friends who works in the hotel industry for a five-star hotel was asked some tricky questions similar to this. Let me know if you are interested in knowing what the questions were, and give me your ID. I will mail you the same.

Thank you, Gayatri, for understanding the story of U & T. However, isn't it a silly theory of questions and answers? It's what typically makes this fun for children. Does it really happen in real interviews?
The questions were not complicated or clearly matched the answers you mentioned. For example, the scenario of a man in a car with the choice to select from an old lady, friend, or girl. The question should be: How can a man keep everybody happy and in his favor at the same time, at his sole discretion in a given situation?
I am expecting some more mature questions/answers for passing the time. Anyway, good fun too.

Hey Gayathri Chand, your last question is quite similar to what an interviewer asked an IIM candidate. He was asked to either solve a simple math problem or answer one difficult question. He said he would prefer to answer one difficult question. He was asked, "Who came first - the hen or the egg?" The candidate instantly replied, "Hen." When asked why he said hen, his reply was, "Sir, you said you will ask only one difficult question."

Hi,
It's really wonderful questions and smart answers. Please come up with more questions and answers like this. However, I don't think all candidates will give such smart answers. In some cases, despite providing smart answers, candidates may not be selected. Why is that so? What might be the reason for this?
Thanks,

Hi,
Can you please help me answer this question? The HR person asked me, "If there are 2 players on a football ground, who will win?" I answered, "50:50."
When asked about 4 players, I responded with "25% chances for four."
What about the goalkeeper? And the referee?
Please assist me in answering these questions. I would be pleased if you could send me more questions like this or suggest a place where I can find them.
