Dear Friends,

It's good to see that so many of you are looking forward to making your career in HR. Kindly go through my Career Path Below, Maybe this will be of any help for you.

>> 2005 to 08 - Completed B.Sc Electronics (full time) from Andhra University with distinction. While pursuing B.Sc, I worked with one of the electronics manufacturing companies, but it was not of much interest. So, I shifted to an Insurance Company and worked as a Financial Advisor, earning around 25k a month.

>> 2008 - Appeared for MAT, scored 88 percentile. Joined Andhra's top university and opted for an MBA, still confused about the stream to choose. In the first year, I participated in many activities; it can be said that I never sat in the classroom. Moving around the campus for various activities, I accomplished various tasks and brought in 35 sponsors in 8 months.

>> 2009 - This was the year when the effects of the recession were increasing; every day we were getting news of many people getting fired or sacked. More than 1000 people committed suicide. This was the time I decided to opt for HR. The first year was successfully over, and I got myself registered for HR.

This is the year when I got an opportunity to witness an International Conference. Not only that, I was the only one selected for the paper presentation from the whole university. It was a wonderful experience; I learned many things and delivered many. Later in the same year, I became the leader of the Hospitality team for an event.

>> 2010 - The happiest moment of my life, we all passed with flying colors. But the sad thing was there were no placements due to the recession. So, once again, we formed a committee where everyone went to most of the employers and reputed companies. The result was 25 companies turning up for campus selection, and 82% were placed.

But I was not happy because there were no placements for HR. Still, I was happy for my friends as most of them received offers of 35k. I took a very hard decision and came to Mumbai in search of a job in HR. I got selected in a consultancy as a Recruitment Consultant at 8k a month. Not happy with the salary, but at least now I have a path to achieve my goal.

>> 2012 - Today, I am working with one of the top consultancies in Mumbai. Now, my job profile has become very vast; I am handling 2 companies' HR Departments as a client. I mean to say that I am handling their complete HR Department, and for them, I am the HR Manager. Today my salary is around 45k+.

This is my story of success. Don't get disheartened; just go for your dream.

Also, remember, today everyone is going for an MBA. It's just like a Pan Shop on every street. The only thing that differs is the college/university and how much effort you put in. MBA is not just a course or something like a classroom study. It's a professional backup that helps you qualify to sit in an interview but doesn't help you to crack it. I would suggest opting for any HR courses, but remember, this is something you can't study in class. Get yourself involved in a number of activities. Look for what's happening around, attend conferences, or if you get a chance, present a paper in a conference. Go for public speaking or addressing. Remember, MBA is not just a study; it's about developing your skills.

Best of Luck,

Ashish Kumar
