Greetings for the day ahead!!!
I am in complete agreement with for.shri
For instant communication, it has to be mobile especially in cases where everybody is not in front of his/her workstation. The logic
1. For keeping record of communication, one can use sms services from computer. There are many available in the market. In such SMS , the message goes from a name and not a number, and thus corporate identity is maintained, as well. ( Posted earlier by for.shri)
2. As far as mobile being personal is concerned, most of the people today have two mobiles - work & personal. Even if , anybody has only one mobile, we all use it for the official purpose in office hours.
3. As far as deleting sms is concerned , that may be a worry but once the practice is started people will start looking into sms before deleting it.
We have deployed this tool in our org and this is very successful and helpful, actually.
Just to substantiate, one of the biggest banks of India runs puerly on SMS, especially BD & wealth mgt.
My personal views, not meant to offend anybody.

Dear All,
In advancement of technology it is wise to utilize rather than keeping it shelfed. In case of employees on the move not all will have Laptop with Data card but many have cell phone, certain messages like to attend meeting, Wishes, or any information to be conveyed to the employee like some one whom he interacts with is on leave etc can be informed via SMS. It is easy and of course quick.

Hi,
I accepted the view of Jayashree and Basu roy communication through Email which useful to record maintain and review the same (Database) and also agreed the statement of shri. Either communication through email or SMS is based on the need of business concern or area. certain communication should be maintain as a record (need to review)and some may not so.
For E.g
E-mail necessary - Conversation related to decision making, forwarding the technical data's, and so on.
SMS - follow up the works, sending Reminders and more applicable for field Executives
Above discussed communication(Email or SMS) is really effective based on the situations.
thanks & regards
