Can someone explain what severity rate and frequency rate are in simple terms? Where and why are these rates relevant? I am not aware of them. I am not from the safety stream, but I am eager to learn about them.

Could you please provide any reference to a legal document that mentions how lost time is calculated? Is it based on the shift time, i.e., 8 hours/day, or is it calculated from the time the injury occurs until the injured person returns to duty, which could be a full day (24 hours)?
