Hi Sam,
This is real good topic to discuss which you pitched in....Though I don't have much exposure towards recruitments but surely comment... Firstly, this is not only a issue at employers end, the problem starts at job seeker level wherein he/she is not exactly aware how the recruiters search for profiles... eventually they miss on adding those relevant and important key words which catchup the string in profile search by recruiters and on the contrary recruiter are not trained on using portals when they join the org which results in lengthy search process when they hit the work.. Net net Employer loses on the no# of profile views, recruiters lose on potential candidates... One thing which we have to understand as employer that we cannot change the job seekers resume so that it gets netted in our search. So, we are left with only one option training recruiter on refine search for optimum utilization of the resource....
I've witnessed many times recruiter do add different permutations & combinations to the search string...It could be a possibility that Job seeker have put the same thing in 2 or 3 different ways and didn't put the key word which recruiter is using in his/her profile search...In this scenario who is the loser... Obviously Employer...
hope I posted something relevant...

well first of all there is only one right candidate for a particular job...
but it is difficult to find that right candidate at the earliest..
so its important to use the right key words no matter which portal one is using..
and even though you put in the right search,, candidates have to be smart enough and ensure that there resume contains maximum keywords...
which is not seen at all..
only 5 resumes out of 100 are worth going through,, rest all a waste of time..
but its not there fault either,, coz they dont know wht words to put in so that his/her resume is easily available to the employer...
so in such a scenario the recruiter is completely at loss...
so he/she has to be clear about a single and the smallest part of the job profile... this will help in finding a relevant cv...

Very true and the search as well should not be just confined to the key words rather the experience and expertise too. I like this <link no longer exists - removed> although an US one but the concept and the search engine works truely amazing. They claim to have some kind of a new algorithm which does the magic!!

Firstly, its silly to look for a senior guy on the jobsites.. You will not get the right fit. You could get help in terms of understanding of the role and the terminilogy of the profile, least you could rely on the jobsites are the companies you could target from for the people you look.
To perform better and look different you should have different approach.... go headhunting!!!...

Very True Giri along with the training to the recruiters the candidates are also needed to be trained or informed about'how to optimize their CVs withthe correct and relevant key word or job skill'.

Job sites doesn't work for massive hiring. You have to involve other sources too. For mid-size companies where the hiring is not too aggressive, it may work. Also, the biggest drawback of Job Portal is that the same database is accessed by several consultancies/companies/freelance recruiters, that chances of duplication multiplies. From candidate' perspective, he may get calls from several other sources for his application that we are too unsure about his acceptance after the long interview process..which is extremely time consuming. I personally feel that internal references, headhunting, professional references, specific vendors, direct applicants etc work much better than Job Portals. Advertisements and Job fairs etc work when its a game of numbers.
