Dear Seniors,
This is ANR. I am happy to share my problem with you through citehr. I have been working in the HR and Admin department for the last 14 years. I have good practical experience in both fields and can handle any type of work related to my job. However, I am poor in drafting letters, and at the beginning of work, I always feel unsure if I can do it or not. I don't know if this problem is common for everybody or not. Please guide and help me.

Hello ANR,
For drafting emails, you can always search on Google and check various websites that can be helpful. Also, keep an eye on the official emails flowing into your mailbox every day. When it comes to doing any kind of work, if you feel tense, rest assured that you will not be able to perform your best. If you approach something with mixed feelings, you may end up making mistakes, and that tension will overshadow your ability. The best way to tackle any work or problem is to be very positive because it will help you give your best every single day. Remember, being positive costs nothing. So, let's be positive :)
Thanks,
Shashi M.

Mr. Rao, stay positive and be confident. Never step back with a second thought, "Can I do it?" With your 14 years of experience, you can do wonders in your job, no doubt about it. Good luck to you.
Writing letters, reports, notes, and other communications are important skills for business and personal life. Try using Google search and other search engines to get the letter formats. Also, whenever you receive an official email from your senior members, observe how it is drafted. Have a collection of all official emails in a separate folder as it will help you save time.
In these 14 years of service, I hope now you can easily judge what sort of official letters will be required for you. So, in your free time, try drafting these letters. With the help of your friends or colleagues, get them corrected and save them in your personal folder. This will give you confidence that whatever letter needs to be drafted, you already have the format. Please follow this, and I am sure you will get back to me saying, "I can draft any sort of letter... I can do it!"

Dear ANR,
With 14 years of rich experience, you can still identify your flaws and want to improve. That's a first! Great going...
Secondly, getting straight to the point—buying books, watching PowerPoint presentations, etc., will not help unless you implement what you learn and then practice.
In this post, you have written casually to an extent. For example:
- 'i' is in lowercase.
- 'Don't' is spelled as 'Dont'.
From the next time onwards, even when you are drafting an informal letter, try to be perfect! Be strict with yourself.
Wish you good luck.

Shikha

Dear ANR,
Nothing to worry about. It all depends on your self-learning skills and attitude. Read the newspaper regularly, watch the news channels regularly, listen to the experts' speeches, attend all the seminars, etc., and try to write about some interesting topics that you would like to express your views and opinions on.
Definitely, you will succeed, and you will automatically feel thankful to me from your heart.

Hi Suraj,
True friends are invaluable. In Kannada, there is a proverb that goes, "Mathu ballavanige, maranavilla," which translates to "one who knows how to communicate will never die." Therefore, communication is crucial in any professional setting. Here are some suggestions to enhance your communication skills:
- Reading books
- Watching English news/channels
- Reading newspapers
- Referring to the dictionary
- Using Google
- Engaging in conversations
- Learning different languages
Best of luck! Suraj Bangalore

Hi,
You feel that "Can you do or not"? It is only due to lack of confidence. As you have lot many potentials but you don’t believe about yourself. You will have to improve your confidence level. It is only possible through practice and with positive thinking. Always think yes I can do it and start the project quickly. Day to day your confidence level will go high and you will start to feel comfortable. It’s also true that many people also face this situation like you. But for all who feel like this, these are the only way to come out.

While buying a book or searching on Google are good suggestions, I think that you might have the answer there in your office already. There must be a lot of files, and when you have a little spare time, start to go through the files and look for examples of regular letters that get sent out. Make a copy of the main details and gradually build up a file of examples. Then, when you need to write a letter on a particular subject, check your file and find something suitable, adapt it to meet the current requirement, and your work is done. No fuss, no stress, and after a while, you will not need your file as you will have taught yourself the art of letter writing! This is not a difficult problem to solve; you already have the answers there in your office. Good luck and best wishes. John in Oz

Dear ANR,
This is not a serious problem, but can be overcome by keeping these in mind:
1. The body of any letter has three components:
- Sub: Containing the main topic on which the letter is about & the reference of previous correspondence date/details.
- What you want to convey
- What you want the other person to do
The rest is about style, vocabulary, and flow. Style can be understood by closely studying the correspondences of good companies. Vocabulary and flow improvement can be achieved by regularly reading articles and observing good conversations. Lastly, practice, practice, and practice. Keep attempting. You will definitely get it. It is not an impossible thing.

I am very happy to see all of your encouragement. Yes, books/material will help only to some extent. Practice with the help of books and media is required to improve myself. Thank you all for your suggestions.
