Hi Shyamali,
While you have already got good inputs to serve your queries, I may 'broadly' add the following :
Leaves in India are essentially governed by either of the enactments : (State's) Shops and Commercial Establishments Act and Factories Act, ESI Act, Maternity Benefits Act. Your leave structure will be governed by the basic fact that your organization is a 'commercial establishment, shop or industrial establishment'. Accordingly, your leave will be structured.
The following types of leave are common:
Earned/Privilege Leave
Casual Leave
Sickness Leave
Maternity
All three are statutorily defined. Companies may pay more leave but the minimum are defined in the relevant enactment.
Progressive Companies follow several other types of leave to 'attract and retain' talent and be counted as savvy, modern and holding 'best/better HR practices'. Some are :
Sabbaticals
Maternity/Paternity Leave (beyond the statutory Maternity Leave)
(Higher) Education Leave
Funeral Leave (beyond ESI Act)
Birth/Marriage Anniversary Leave
Non-cuperation leave
Dating Leave, etc. etc.
Hope this broadens the canvas.
Cheers!
