Well, let me add on my comments too.. we can nail down few options
1. Sending a bouquet/cake to employee's place
or
2. Gifting a good restaurant's voucher of Rs 250 or Rs 500.
or
3. Gift vouchers of the same amount
or
4. Greetings/mails
or
5 Special time off policy- a short leave in the evening say allow the employee to leave around 2 hrs before his normal time.. let the day be enjoyed by family. e.g. we have special day off complete on birthdays but if theres a lot of work pressure then employee can tk it later

The issue has to be handled sensitively. We've had instances of persons whose marriages were on the rocks / on the verge of breaking up / filed for divorce, where the employee had not informed the organisation. They weren't actually required to inform until the divorce was through. So wishing on the anniv. would be a huge faux pas, and best avoided!!

Dear Sharmanessu,

In my opinion this is the best practice to send b'day & anniversary wishes to emloyees which is a highly motivating & a feel good factor for them.

Believe me i used to take care of this in my org & people are very keen on updating their birthdays & anniversaries with HR & used to like this practice. You can do following things:

1)Tie up with a local vendor & send bouques to spouse early morning with From (companies name)

2)Send a a mail form a common functional id to all employees in Bcc & the person in To.

3)Put up a b'day\anniversary chart in the central visible place with all the names of employees having bday in particular month.

You can capture b'day & anniversary dates at the time of joining or can send a common mailer to all employees to update their anniversary dates in HR records. But one has to be careful to continue this activity once started & not miss a single bday or an anniversary.

Through this activity you are making employees spouse & employee feel special on this day.

In my organisation we have pratice to wish the employee on his anniversary by giving a greeting card... i feel that it is a good practice bcos employees in my organisation feel very happy, not only this we send b'day gift on their children b'day(less tand 10yrs) directly to their residence.

It will good if the team size is good and every what to keep things open, where as if company goes big and big. it will be a tough job for this, Some people don't want wish this day wife is not staying him or husband is also not staying with them.
For such people go and wish with good intention and things may go wrong.
I have seen this my old company. suddenly they have stoped with on marriage Anniversary.

I think a HR team can send a congratulatory wishes to an employee who has got married newly. But dont advise anniversary wishes because its totally personal celebration of an individual. Birthday and service anniversary wishes are sent to our employees in our oraganization.

It is not the organisation but specifically HR department doing such stuff.
Better send message on birthday and celebrate it.
In bigger organisations, concerned department/ section only do that with a poster on the notice board.
If possible avoid marriage related things as it is a sensitive area and many people have even secret marital problems, even separated without informing others.
