Why you should not only Worship Indian Gods ?
Introduction
Lord Rama , Sri Krishna are worshipped by the masses. Their lives not only serve as inspiration to all but also hold some important management and leadership lessons.
We should not only limit ourselves by worshipping them but also imbibe the valuable life lessons.
Lord Rama-14 years exile
Lord Rama was forced to renounce the throne and go to the exile to forest for 14 years to uphold his father ‘s honour.
He never questioned his father’s actions or revolted against him. He is admired and worshipped because Rama's life and journey is one of perfect adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time
Learnings
Sometimes a messed up situation is created by the former employee and somebody else is appointed to do the clean up act.
Sometimes in the management world we are given tasks which are impossible or are very tough.
In this situation we need to accept the decisions and orders of the leaders/top management and get on with the assignment/task without any questions and reservations and wondering why me?
In the end this brings glory and builds reputation
War with Ravana
Lord Rama had no resources except his brother to fight Ravana. Lord Rama by helping others created alliances of the ragtag army of monkeys and bears to fight Ravana.
He also gave shelter to Vibhishana and got the inner secrets of defeating and killing Ravana.
Learnings
Sometimes a competitor has to be beaten or a target has to be achieved with minimal resources and budget . It can only be done with innovation, and so called jugaad.
Thinking creatively to have the maximum impact with minimum resources is the only solution.
Sri-Krishna in Mahabharata
Sri Krishna was a practical person . He bailed out Pandavas with lots of practical suggestions whenever they got stuck.
He was the one who suggested how to kill Drona when Drona as a commander –in-chief of Kauravas was annihilating the Pandavas army.
He was street smart helping Pandavas with some smart tips which include killing Karna, Jarasandha and Duryodhana.
Learnings
In life we sometimes need to be smart to get around complex situation without being unethical or breaking the law. More so when you are fighting for the good cause.
Example -The Pepsi campaign of “Nothing Official about it” got more eyeballs than the official sponsor –Coke.
Lord Krishna-Gita
Arjuna got depressed and de-motivated seeing his own relations ,teachers and cousins before the war began.
It was Lord Krishna who not only motivated him but gave him knowledge and teachings whom the world today calls “Gita”.
Learnings
If your team members are de-motivated or nervous because of the imposing situation or circumstances as a leader the right way is to calmly mentor and guide him instead of showing anger/frustration or criticizing the particular team member as has been the norm today.
The EQ and empathy is in short supply in over aggressive/high achiever crowd today.
Sri-Krishnaas- Ranchod
Jarasandha, Kansa's father-in-law, began to attack Mathura as revenge for Kansa's death.
Even though Krishna defeated him eighteen times he was still worried. Mathura being under a constant state of attack was a burden on the people and prosperity.
Krishna decided to move to Dwaraka as he felt it was unfair to people of Mathura to suffer because he was the only reason for Jarasandha’s attacks as Krishna had killed Jarasandha’s son-in-law Kansa.
He established his kingdom in Dwarka though people called him Ranchod- ‘He who runs from battle'
Learning
Sometimes a withdrawal or quitting is the best strategy even if it means setback for an individual or a limited entity but is better for a large majority.
A person should quit to take the moral responsibility of an incident or mistake.
If a particular product, category or a division needs to be closed to make the organization healthier and efficient, there should be no shame in implementing this.
Quitting or withdrawing is also a strategy
Lord Ganesha
Ganesha and His brother Lord Subramanya (Kartikeya) once had a dispute as to who was the elder of the two. The matter was referred to Lord Shiva for final decision. Shiva decided that whoever would make a tour of the whole world and come back first to the starting point had the right to be the elder.
Subramanya flew off at once on his vehicle, the peacock, to make a circuit of the world. But the wise Ganesha went, in loving worshipfulness, around His divine parents and asked for the prize of His victory.
Lord Shiva said, "Beloved and wise Ganesha! But how can I give you the prize; you did not go around the world?"
Ganesha replied, "No, but I have gone around my parents. My parents represent the entire manifested universe!"
Thus the dispute was settled in favour of Lord Ganesha, who was thereafter acknowledged as the elder of the two brothers.
Learning
Things which are important to a person differ from a person to person. A successful person is one who understands the things which are important to him/her and strives to have them.
There is no point in comparing with others. Wealth or status might be important to a particular person, while pursuing some hobby/passion or being close to nature might be important to a different person.
Both could be successful if they are able to get what they think as important .
