Dear Rishika,
Seems, you are in the nascent stage of your career.
My view on the matter is iconoclastic and as follows:
1. A particular job is served by a specialized skill set (Technical and Behavioral) than the gender or qualification at times, and i believe that if you possess the apt skill set for the job, then there is nothing that can stop you.
2. Ladies in India and the west, nowadays are as successful as the men.
3. At this stage, you should hang on to reasons that motivate you than the ones that confuse you.
Regards,
Rahul Chhabra

P.S. - Besides my Bachelors, i have no full time education yet i am better than most of the MBA HR professionals. :)

Hi Readers,
Wonderful and really inspiring discussion, I strongly recommend this discussion. I dont have any more points to put here, all points are well covered by the members.
The most inspiring quote I liked is by Chandru - " while there can be male and female at a physical level, at the spirit level we all are just one." this explains everything.
Enjoyed reading this discussion, for sheer relief that there are good thinking people in the world, who respects hardwork, merit and knowledge as success factors rather than gender, caste, religion or any other biased outlook.
Although some members did put up a biased opinion of HR field being favoured or more suitable for women, I disagree to that. No pretty girls are picked up due to thier charming looks over knowledge and ability, its a mean corporate world, every resource must give its ROI.
Thanks

Dear Friends
Let me thank Rishika for initiating an debatable thread.
It is an excellent and really worthy discussion. I second the opinion shared by Chandru.
As a matter of fact, from where such question of gender, political, regional, language, religional biasedness are arising?
It is only knowledge, power of execution, controlling and directing, managing the systematic way of work, ability to work, etc., and not on any biased ness.
Where there are highly strenuous work involved like IR, Labour Welfare, etc., we cannot deploy girls because of their physical conditions.

Dear S Bhaskar
Field like IR, Labor Welfare, Collective bargaining, Negotiating with Trade Unions etc, are again stereotyped as male domains, due to the fact that, this involves interacting with semi skilled or uneducated workforce or stubborn trade unions. This areas require certain competencies like; pursuasive, assertive, commanding and yet polite, subtle and diplomatic skills along with strong knowledge about labor law regulations. Any person (male or female) believes that He / She has this competencies can perform this tasks, there is no law which prohibits women in these areas, however there is a social mindset which discourages women from joining or somewhere its women themselves dont prefer to explore this areas in HR due to certain obvious reasons such as :
Social Conditioning
Male dominant workforce
Unpleasant locations of offices (Plant site, workshops, factories etc)
Stereotype image of Women (timid, polite, suppressive, etc)
In today's changing times, this stereotypes are challenged in other areas of economy, then why not HR ? Lets open our minds and break mental blocks which limits human spirits from achieving anything that can be achieved.
