Dear John,
It's not about amount. Anyone will not mind paying even 600 rupees for a good book. But, as a matter of fact, we are living in a different era.
1) Selling books to the readers for a fixed amount is an old concept. There are different ways of making money even if you provide it free to your readers. May be by taking some company's case study as an example and in lieu of that ask for some sponsorship from the company. Something sort of image placement may be !!! Had free been such bad we wouldn't have all google content for free. I am sure that Google owners do not have a problem of livelihood.
2) The author can also make it available for "Freemium". You put a price to the content that you think is premium and worth paying for and make all other content free so that more and more readers enjoy your work.
PS: Plz don't take my comments personally. I am trying to explore if there is way for book authors to provide content for free and still make money!
