I am an HR professional in a software company in Chennai, India. My sales team works in the US time zone as we sell our products to the US market. I have some doubts about framing the compulsory holidays for these employees.
1. What are the compulsory Indian holidays? (I believe it's 26th Jan, 2nd Oct, 15th Aug, 1st May). Do the sales team have to work on these days?
2. What are the days they could take off considering the US holidays? (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day)
Please reply back ASAP.

Hello!! You are correct. 26/1, 15/8 & 10/2 are national holidays, and 1/5 could be applicable for TN. There is a local law regarding the number of holidays to be observed in each state. Festival holidays can be chosen. Since your sales personnel work is correlated to US working, your personnel will have to work on these days too unless your business may suffer. The compensation to be provided for working on these days is provided in the applicable statute. Please look into the same. Regards, KK Nair
