Dear My Colleagues,
I need your help on the above mentioned topic, we are having three shifts in our plant, timings are mentioned below:-
Shift A:- 0600 Am-2.30 Pm (Half hour is lunch hour)
Shift G:-09.00 Am- 05.30 Pm
Shift B:- 1.30 Pm-10.00 Pm
now the problem is this that we are instructed by our labour authoritoes to change our shift time as we are doing over lapping in Shift A and Shift B from 1.30 am tp 02.30 Pm for one hour, according to my knowledge shift overlapping is considered only when shifts are streched beyond the time but in this case this is not overlapping, could anyone clear me regarding this? do you have any specific document which explains the same thing????

Hello,
The labor authorities have advised you right!
There is clear prohibition for overlapping shifts. This is covered in the chapter "Working Hours". Kindly check it out but I will generally explain what the law means by "overlapping shifts" When two sets of work do the same work but have different (and overlapping) shifts!
Kindly check your work organization to ensure that this does not happen!
Need more help, post the question!

Hello,
According to Factories Act 1948, Women cannot work beyond 7pm. so anyways you are prohibiting the law.
Shift Timing can be as follows:
A Shift: 06:00 am - 02:00 pm
B Shift : 02:00 pm - 10:00pm
You can adjust most of the female employees in the General and A Shift.

Sir, As per factories act Overlapping of shift is quite tricky to undersatnd and follow - but thumb rule is that Two different shifts in one area for same kind of work is called overlapping. for example if there is a shift 9-7 in logistics are and you wish to start another shift in same area for same work from 11-09pm is sure example of overlapping. please see.
