Hi,
A good article is attached. Still, with due respect, I request you to please go through the following:
Due to environmental pollution and mental pollution, people are in search of peace and hence want to learn meditation. But really speaking the process of meditation is also got polluted. Now a days, whatever path one wants to follow for getting peace is termed as meditation. Hence, though I don’t want to hurt others, I want to say that “All that glitters is not gold”. I hope that by knowing the proper knowledge on Meditation, all will be benefited a lot, by practicing it properly.
Meditation is the English word for the Sanskrit word “YOGA”.
While going deeply through the ancient scriptures, we can understand that, human being has two identifications, namely
(a) the body made of 5 elements (earth, water, air, fire, space) and
(b) the operator of the body – the soul.
Accordingly, to attain good nourishment for both the body and the soul; two types of yogas are invented. They are (a) Hatt Yoga and (b) Raja Yoga.
Hatt Yoga relates to the physical body and all types of aasan, prayanam comes under this category. By practicing Hatt Yoga, one can keep good health, which in turn provides good effect on soul.
On the other hand, Raja Yoga relates to the soul. YOGA in its true sense of the term is called as Raja yoga. Because, the Sanskrit word “yoga” means “union” / “connection” between two things. In spiritual terms union between soul and the Supreme Soul is called as “Raja Yoga”. By practicing Raja Yoga, one can get divine powers from Supreme Soul, which will have divine effects not only on soul, but also on the body, family members, relatives, environment etc.
Though, prayer has also its role in nourishment of human being, but it is separate from yoga. Prayer (prarthana) is known as one of the nine varieties of bhakti (navdha bhakti).

Dear Jothi Karthikeyan and to all responders,
The ebook attached by Jothi is a very good information and a nice one for a beginner. The book reflects on many ways of meditation and while it is good for any one to begin with by picking up any path, one has to be clear about what is right and what is actual meditation and why we have to meditate. I have been practicing meditation of a path called "Saptharishi Dhyana Yoga" and over the years have asked questions, understood, practiced and also taking classes for this Centre in Bangalore city. Hence, I would like to place some points for more clarity and everything cannot be and should not be called as meditation. The misguided ones or the beginners who does not know what is meditation may go on calling anything and everything as meditation. But from the Rishis, who are our masters for all the times that have passed and that are existing and that are going to come have clearly defined....
1. MEDITATION IS SILENCING THE BODY, MIND AND INTELLECT
With this knowledge and definition very simple, effective techniques have been passed on through the right masters and our Guru Krishnananda in bangalore has received from his Guru Amara who was in contact with the Rishis in the higher dimension has brought out a book HOW TO MEDITATE which gives more authentic and clear crisp information on the basics of meditation and for any one to follow it safely.
More information on this can be given if any one is seriously interested in taking up this
