Dear professionals, If an employee is terminated during the notice period, should we provide him with the exit certificates?

Why NOT? Whatever be the reason for termination, the employee relieved from service should be given either a relieving letter or a service certificate showing his designation, date of entry and exit and reason for exit. If the reason for exit/ termination will cause stigma to the employee, then you should also have to ensure that reasonable opportunity was given to the employee to defend the charges before he was given termination. Moreover, under Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act there is provision that an employer should give service certificate to every employee. Therefore, failure to give it may become a non compliance also.
