Are the probationers eligible for EL under the Karnataka Shops and Establishment Act?

EL will accrue only after 12 months of service with the establishment. The number of EL to which an employee is entitled would depend on the state Act. The Karnataka Act provides for one day for every 20 days worked and that would count from the date of joining. If the probation period extends beyond 12 months, the employee should be given earned leave. This is because, for entitlement of leaves (even Casual leave or sick leave) status of employee like permanent, probationer or temporary does not matter. What matters is the number of days/ months worked.
