Hello Seniors,

I need your help and advice.

I am working for a Recruitment consultancy which is catering to the requirements of big engineering industries. I have no complaints with the present job other than the salary part.

Now last week I got a mail regarding an opening in another consultancy for a "Head - Reruitment" position. Just out of curiosity I approached them, spoke to them and they made me an offer "DOUBLE" than what I am getting presently. I agreed and when I spoke to my current boss I learnt that he is not ready to part with me.

He feels he cannot lose me because he feels that I am good and says that 'if others can buy you for that money, why not I pay you the same to retain you for myself'. Now he has made the same offer that the other company has made.

Now my problem is how to put it across to the new employer that I would be continuing in the same place??? Because I want to tell you seniors sincerely :"I did not trade my offer". I NEVER THOUGHT THAT HE WOULD MAKE A COUNTER OFFER EQUAL TO THAT TO RETAIN ME." I was all set to leave the present company and join the new one.

Please advice me. I would be greatful to you all!

Hi,
Apart from the offer and designation, look at the oppturnuties of learning and the exposure that you get. Make a comparison between the two organizations, in terms of your individual growth and organization's growth and then take a call.
One thing I dont understand is, if your current employer is so impressed on your performance why didnt he increase your salary inbetween. How will your next increase happen. The employer should own his employees and take care of the needs a& expectations of his employees.

hello Jayanti..
it does not sounds good that after all this happening you will stay with the current organization. beacuse your boss might think in future that you will leave and will start planning your successor. might there be no alternative for him but if he knows that your salary is not competitive he should offer already "DOUBLE". but saying this that others can buy you it is not good it can be obstacle in your career. so i suggest you must change.
second if you went for other job what was main reason if it is only salary then switch if it is some other then stay.

hii jayanthi,
My advise would be not to compare on monteray terms
Look out diff on terms on job responsiblity, growth, recognition etc...
As u want to cont.. with same co.
inform the same to new employer in verbal which would give better impression rather than non-verbal

Hi!!!
Jayanthi, I feel you should take the new job offer.
Here are my views as to why the new offer:
Once resigned the confidence of your employer may be (usually is) lost and by no way you can gain it.
Another aspect is the way with which your colleagues will look at you and it is difficult to adjust.
In case anything goes wrong in future with the company or your work you may be dealt with harshly.
Also looks like your services are required at this moment. However you never know if your employer is preparing an alternate (back up) and the momemnt the back up is ready........things may be difficult for you.
And as Sathiya rightly pointed out it is indeed important for you to analyse why did your employer double your salary on your resignation....
The above may sound pessimistic or harsh but they are my very sincere views..

Dear Sathiya,
Thanks for your reply.
I also gave it a thought. I felt that he was just pulling on with that salary until it could pull on. AS they say "only crying babies get the milk"...
I did compare both the organizations. The present organization is 11 years old and well established and the new one is just 3 years old and solely owned by a woman (Marwadi).
The present organiztion has branches in Bangalore, Chennai etc. and there are all chances that we may relocate to either of these places depending on my husbands job. My present boss says he can extend his hand in placing me at these branches as head in the future also. So he asks me to be with him and see my growth.
Do you think I am right in making a choice of staying back here?

well if u can get what you are offered elsewhere , don't change , just politely tell them that thx for your offer but because of some personal reasons iam wishing to continue in this company only , don't tell u are getting the same in ur existing company. but from ur present comany take that on paper.

I have been working for the past 5 months here. Let me add one more thing here. Presently he has a staff which is neither qualified nor good at communication skills. But all are sincere and hard working and do their job as told to them. But after I joined things have changed here quite a bit. He can appreciate the way I communicate and produce results. I feel he was trying to get work from me with the salary he had offered for as long as he could. But this new offer made him feel that he cannot lose me at this stage where he is getting many many requirements. So he is trying to retain me.
As I told you earlier, I have no complaints here other than the salary. My only problem is how to communicate this to the new employer??
Please help

Hi,
5 months is a very short time to change an organization. I suggest you to be with your present company for another 5-6 months.
And as rightly said by amit just politely tell them that due to some personal reasons you wish to continue in current company only.

Hi jyanti
I have gone through your view & came to know that you should work there continue with another salary package. as per your mail every thing is good instead salary then there is no need to change if salary has increased. Another place you dont know which kind of envirounment, what they aspect to you, will you be fit there or many a thig there. Keeping in view many a thing it is good for you to be continue there.
