I had appeared in an interview and got intent letter of joining but not an offer letter. My joining date will be in march ending. In addition to this when I made a phone call to new employer, he said that your appointment has been finalised. So don't worry about it. So I mailed them my joining date as well as date to reach on the place. On basis of this is it OK to give resignation in my current company?

Intent Letter of joining
Definition :A letter of intent (LOI) is a document outlining the general plans of an agreement between two or more parties before a legal agreement is finalized. A letter of intent is not a contract and cannot be legally enforced; however, it signifies a SERIOUS commitment from one involved party to another.
BUT it is not enforceable in court of law.

Offer letter is more important and legal document. When employe accepts the offer letter then it becomes a job contract.
So I would advice you to speak to the company and ask for an offer letter based on which you could resign.
Other experts may advice on this aspect.

Hi. What is your notice period in the present company? Basing on the cut-off date you may decide but make sure that the new company offer stands and is finalised in the meantime. Most of the big companies do not go back on their word but it is good to have the employment letter in your hands before deciding on the resignation from present job. See that you maintain a good relationship whether you leave a company or join a new one, it is quite essential in general. Good luck, as they say, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. So take your step cautiously until you get confirmed order in hand.
