Managing an organization is not an easy task. Managing employees is a major chunk of it. If you have the responsibility of managing people either as an HR or a business owner, you must keep your eyes peeled back for pointing out frustrated employees.
Dissatisfied employees are the ones who are dissatisfied with their organization and are actively looking for new job opportunities. There are two major ways to deal with a frustrated employee, either you take steps to retain the employee or you let him or her go before they make other employees develop bad feelings for the company.
Before you take any of these measures, you need to remember the 8 signs of a frustrated employee or how to know if you have a frustrated employee mentioned over here.
  1. Only the Essentials: A frustrated employee would just do the basics tasks assigned to him or her. A dissatisfied employee would never be more productive than required and would be eager to leave the company on the dot of time in the evening. A frustrated employee would also make sure that he or she just does enough work to make people think he or she is working all day and would be eager to get distracted from work.
  2. No Initiatives: Another big sign of a frustrated employee is the lack of taking initiatives. A dissatisfied employee would never take any new initiatives like heading a new project or training a new team member. Even when such an employee is asked to take initiative, he or she will most likely make an excuse or recommend another name who can take on the job instead of him or her.
  3. No Socializing: If a frustrated employee is planning to leave the organization, he or she would stop chatting with other employees, stop having lunch with them or even say a simple good morning. Such an employee would just keep to his or her own and never waste time in talking to others no matter how much people prompt him or her to do so.
  4. Negative Approach: Everything will seem bad to a frustrated employee. Such an employee would find bad things to say about the organization, the people, the managers and even a new process or system added to the organization. He or she will always think others to be bad and will always be reluctant in admiring the work of the junior members.
  5. Less Participation in Extracurricular Activities: Birthdays, New Year celebrations, office anniversary would never matter to a dissatisfied employee, he or she would never participate in any extracurricular activities but would prefer to rush home. Such an employee would also be very bad at helping the organizers of the extracurricular activities as he or she will not feel attached to the organization.
  6. Punctuality Issues: One of the most common sign that a good employee is turning into a frustrated employee is the punctuality problems. A frustrated employee would always come late in the office, waste time on non-important stuff and would be eager to leave the office early. Such an employee would also take leaves without notifying in advance and won’t be bothered about the consequences such as the client project deadline.
  7. Resist Change: A dissatisfied employee would be first in line to criticize a new product, procedure or system launched by the management. A dissatisfied employee would always encourage other people to resist change but will rarely speak up his or her mind on the change when the management is nearby. A frustrated employee would also be eager to find mistakes in the change and thus make change management a tough nut to crack.
  8. Social Media: Last but not the least, when a normal employee turns into a frustrated employee, he or she will become more active on professional networks such as LinkedIn. He or she would start hunting up jobs and increase the professional network. Remember to make sure that he or she doesn’t criticize your company on these platforms as it can turn into a reputation management disaster.
On the whole, it can be said that there are very simple ways to filtering out a dissatisfied employee. You just need to see the signs, take appropriate actions instantly especially if you don’t want the other employees to feel frustrated too.
