Talking about efficiency, how do we define efficiency ?

Are we saying that the professionals today are not as efficient when it comes to work ?

Are we saying that the professionals are not equally enthusiastic and self motivated today?

Are we saying that the professionals today are not "loyal" to the companies?

Let's look at it this way :

Three decades ago, the education patterns were different and lesser people could afford higher or vocational education.

Those who did, preferred to stay with the organisation that they had.

The opportunities in terms of jobs were comparitively lesser.

Today we have a host oppotunities in IT, ITES, BPO's , KPO's.

The employers earlier had a "dictating word and bargaining power" but today the employees have a good deal of say.

Had such options been available earlier, I am sure the "then" employees would have surely made use of such oppotunities...

I am in no way protecting or defending the current generation. Of course, the options that current Job market has provided has in a way triggerred a hopping trend amongst the working force...an average employee in an IT organisations stays with the company for an average of about 2 years and starts seeking better oppotunities...

I feel the work force temperaments change with changing economies, the more the economy grows, the more changing patterns we will see in the workforce.

well surely you have a point, what Iwould like to mention, is we have evolved some words recently

these words are

HR, MOTIVATION, DEDICATION, ENTHUSIASM, PROFESSIONALISM, CHALLENGE NECESSARY ..

and so on,

But one point I would like to add which is one and sole, our parents / elders were more contented , satisfied with their jobs than we are today, today we might be earning much much more than them, but rarely I saw elders comming home late from office, brining office work home, and they were satisfied with their pay and work. So mostly they did not need the training classes, and yoga classes, as their work was limited to office timings.

Today we are working 12-14 hours and again going to yoga classes, motivation classes started by our company. The what time we have for ourselves, our personal life, company will define that it creates a work life balance by yoga classes, motivational sessions, but it forgets common sense that work life balance is created by a balanced professional and personal life. And the how to spend the employees personal life is to be decided by the employees not the company by starting yoga classes, and motivational sessions.

my dear,
my question is pl. read it carefully "young employees we hired were ambitions, consciences, hardworking and honest today’s young worker don’t have the same values" i am not asking for their health or yoga etc.

I would try to comment in simple way.

All depends on how you recruit people.

How you analyse them.

enthu young people are available but you have to recruit right candidates.

India is very higly resourseful country and job market is full of jobs. job descriptions have become very niche and so relevant and competent candidates are less.

I am not going out of the point...... i want to say, now a days you will find many courses available in various field from various institutes and business schools. Many average people are doing courses from C grade or unknown institutes and also many crash courses are available in the market to develop skills.

So, during interview they are very confident and skill oriented.

Again due to boom in job market, skilled people are getting high salaries.

Again when less salaried person sees outside he finds himself demotivated and work less accordingly. there are people who enjoy work and we have hire those candidates.

in addition - HR Department have to take care this by providing training and career development program. YOu need to find out what your employees want and act accordingly.

If they want to grow show them Carrot.

If they are not working give them a stick.

Need to make strategic planning on this.

No, They were not efficient than what today's generation people are- a mix of smart work & Techno savvy. Today people are more adaptable to changing outside and inside organisational environment.
Behaviors of Resisting to change has declined.
This makes the core proffessional human nature flexible and thus values, consceince and principles reshapes as per the demands of the situation of the business.
35 years back people had rigid backbone due to long period of association with one location, family, organisation which brougt permanency in their thinking patterns, values and beleifs. Hence you could find single skill possessed by the individuals and loyalty and industry went hand in hand.
Today the numbers of multitask capabilities individuals are more as are the industries.
Bottom line is Efficiency should be derived after considering the output under specified situation rather as general timeframe.
