Dear Friends, Is the employer liable to pay PF & Esi Contributions on the wages paying to a women employee who went on meternity leave? and is the leave period is 12 weeks or enhanced? Regards Phani

There can be two scenario:
1.) Female employee is covered under ESIC benefits.
Here she will get the wages for maternity leave period from the ESIC and not from the employer. Hence employer need not make any contribution for EPF or ESI
2.) Female employee is not not covered under ESIC.
She will get her wages for maternity leave period directly from the employer hence all statutory contributions including EPF or ESIC needs to be paid by the employer.
