Hello People!
Has anyone implemented Vishaka guidelines in their office? How does one go about putting this into practice? I believe following are some of the things, pls do provide your inputs/comments/suggestions -
1) Setting up an internal complaints committee (equal ratio of male and female members with one preceding female head)
2) Organize timely workshops for sensitization and display conspicuously at the workplace, the penal consequences of indulging in such acts.
3) Involve an NGO or a person who is aware on these issues
4) Recieve written complaints and keep local complaints committee in loop.
I'm totally confused about point 3 and 4. Can somebody share their experiences of implementing Vishaka Guidelines in their office?

Vineeta,
Many of our clients have implemented the Sexual Harassment Prevention Policy in their factories and offices. Compliant committee is a small part, though most visible to people. In addition, you need clear policies, changes in your standing orders (if applicable) to define misconduct to include sexual harassment, clear procedure on handling the cases and communication of the policy and procedure to all the employees.
I hope you are aware that the Vishaka guidelines have been superseded by the new Act passed by the parliament in 2013. The ICC has to be formed as provided in the new act.
So what is your problem actually with items 3 & 4 ?
They seem simple enough to me.

Thanks for the response. Items 3&4 are clear to me, but i'm confused about the following -
a) how do i go about involving someone from an ngo or some person who works/or is aware on issues of Sexual Harassment. How do i impanel such a person?
b) who/what is the LCC (Local Complaints Committee) and what is the procedure of keeping them in loop or informing about these incidents?
Rest implementation bit is very understandable to me. Can you help me with this? :)

you need to find an NGO which is doing work on sexual harassment (prevention of sexual harassment).
You can google for them, i am sure you will get it.
Otherwise, you can get information from the charity commissioner office.
You then need to speak to them and see who is available. I hope you realise that you will need to pay them for attending the meetings.
LCC is defined in the act. It will be formed by the government. you need to check what is notified for your area. Or you will have to contact the office of the district magistrate for the information. You need to keep them informed of any complains that have been filed and how it is resolved. However, to the best of my knowledge, only those who do not have ICC (Internal Complains Committee) have to do that. I am not sure if the rules under the act are also notified by each state.

Sure Dear Vini just google it and you will get so many NGO's which are working on sexual harassment just just approach them they will come for the meeting which is held once in a three months its compulsory they will explain about VISHAKA Guidelines also in meeting.
About LLC U can Contact with DC office they will Guide you defiantly.
And coming into ration it should be 80:20 Ratio.(10 Female are there in committee means at least 2 male should be there).

Dear members,
Indian government has passed law on sexual harassment. One of the sources of this was law was Vishaka guidelines. Since these guidelines are no longer needed, this thread is being closed.
